To show my support for the home province, I'm sending my youngest to Ste.Anne de Beaupre on Thurday for Festival Gigue en Fete.
I don't know what Gigue means, maybe 'jig' , but I'm sure she'll love it. I love reading her pre trip instructions. 'Be ready to perform [dance]. Being tired is no excuse. Remember who you represent and act accordingly.' I love plain instructions.
So if you're bored and wandering around Ste.Anne, check them out, respectfully of course.
I'm a proud Quebecois. A nationalist too or at least I used to be.
I'm a proud Canadian now.
Quebec has nothing to be proud of right now. We're getting eaten alive by the rest of the world and are merely putting more BBQ on ourselves to hasten the meal.
The Quebecois used to have a spine, we used to have pride, we used to be our own, with our own culture, "masters in our homes", as the father of modern Quebec Jean Lesage would say. And we didn't need to annoy anyone with it, we just WERE. We made good TV, good movies, good music, we were enterprising and hardworking people with a high inventive spirit.
Mr. Lesage is doing sommersaults in his grave nowadays. We have grown into lazy dimwits raised in a herd mentality with little will to work or learn anything.
It's no wonder there are less and less hockey players. The people just are too lazy nowadays to do what my parents did for me and my brother and get their kids to the arena every Saturday morning.
My generation was maybe the last to enjoy the fruits of this heart and this spirit. Then, we'll all grow old. Most will have had kids in whom they will have instilled in the herd mentality and the lazy spirit. Make no mistake about it. Our parents were smart, spirited and strong. We are spirited and strong. Our kids will be strong. The next generation will walk on all fours.
