If Avery Walks Tucker? / Tucker Bought Out

If Sather decides not to re-sign Sean Avery, which it looks like is going to happen.. I have heard that there is some interest in making up for Sean with Darcy Tucker. I hate Tucker for plenty of reasons but there is still talk about him possibly wearing a blueshirt, and trying to be the fire that Avery was. I think we definently would need to make up for Sean if he walks, and Tucker might be the perfect way to do that. I mean lets face it the reason that they don't get along at all, is because they are so damn similar.

Not that I think they are the same "type" of player but I can see the Rangers signing Cory Stillman to replace Avery..

Definite NO on tucker. As FLY said he is on the decline and I think by signing him we will admit we made a mistake with Avery. We saw against Buffalo and then against Pittsburgh that if the other team is smart enough to ignore him then nothing gets done. We can't treat him as some unfallible key to winning because it can never be guaranteed to work. I also see no reason why someone like Callahan can't fill this role if it's absolutely necessary. For whatever reason, we were noticeably better with him than without him but in any case he will not be around forever, so we better learn to win without him. And spending 4 million on a guy who is unlikely to get more than 50 points is not a great way to win in my book.

And as you can see from the avatar, this comes from an ardent Avery supporter but even I draw a line somewhere and I wouldn't go over 3.25 for him and I wouldn't sign Tucker or anyone of that ilk to replace him. With that said, hopefully he can get through a couple days of July without a big offer and come crawling back for ~3 mil or less.

screw tucker, id rather have purinton on the ice. if avery walks i say sign either matt cooke or try and give byers a chance to be that guy. or if the team gets desperate for some spark, then trade for burrows, ott or carcillo.

No on Tucker. As I said many times before, I would rather bring up some of our young players then add and sign this years garbage just because it is the only thing there.

Only person I hope to be signed is Orpik. Jagr and Mara are people I would like to see back and I hope for a play to a RFA.

Dane Byers hopefully will make the team this year, he does'nt offer the agitation factor that Avery had but he is one tough cookie, people like the chippy game that Cally plays, well Dane adds the same and more, he not only drops his gloves but wins the majority of his fights, and whilst that is only at the AHL level I'm quite sure that he'd carry it over into the big league.

I like Avery a lot, I like his style of play and he can take over games. Even if he is unlikely to get over 50 points a year (which I don't necessarily agree with) a guy who can take over games on his own is worth about 3 to 4 million per in my books. I think we should pay him, he is young and could probably be locked up for a bunch of years. If he gets out of hand or becomes a distraction (which I don't feel he has in NYC) we can always buy him out.

Dane is ready...

for 4-6 minutes on the fourth line - the team needs to find someone who can go out there 15-17 minutes per night. Further, Avery agitated top competition - Byers would see action against other teams' fourth lines. We'll see what he does in the NHL. My only issue is that he has Petr Nedved's frame - which works well when you're playing physical in the AHL, but may not be as effective in the NHL.

Tucker makes too much money to be considered by the Rangers. If the Rangers don't re-sign Avery they'll play the Swede pest they just acquired on a third line with Drury and Callahan.

I really don't want to see him leave and although he's not worth 3.5 million I'd pay it anyway. He brings something to the team that doesn't show up on the scoresheet and that isn't easily replaced.

I can't remember a Ranger who pissed off Brodeur more than Sean Avery.

No interest in Tucker. I'd Rather pay almost nothing and let young guys play.

I'd say no thanks to Tucker, we can get a player from within the organization to replace Avery.

What im scared of is if Avery goes, Hollweg will get more minutes.

Hollweg should be kicked off this team after the stupidity he pulled late in the year.

I'd rather get someone, anyone to replace his minutes - someone who has an edge and can actually put a few puck in the net.

Lets hope Korpo or someone in the system takes his spot.

agreed w/ you until here. I would be upset if Korp was limited to 5-7 min a game playing w/ Betts and Orr... it would completely destroy his development. Either he should be on 2nd or 3rd lines or be in the AHL getting alot of minutes....

players who could be 4th liners intsead of Hollweg... Byers, Moore, Jamtin, maybe Jessiman later in the year.

Corey Perry is the guy you'd really want if you have to replace Avery. He's a good agitator but brings a ton of offense to the table as well.

and he is big at 6'4 220, we can use a big winger like perry. i wanted bernier before he got dealt, we dont have that big winger that every team has.
