I'm glad that you're not making that case because I'm really looking forward to seeing what Sjostrom can do next season. And I wouldn't drop him for a lazy guy who's injury-prone.

That said, if I were a GM I would get on the phone and talk to him. He can't really want to end his nhl career because he'd rather be lazy. I would listen to what he has to say and the tone in which he says it.

From the looks of him in that picture you won't have to try very hard.

Wellwood would be a good addition to this team if the NHL changes the shootout format to a pie eating contest.

i really think some of our fine members want to claim Wellwood for the simple reason they want a new player on the roster it doesn't matter who but as long as it's a name they recognize.....patience my friends..patience..
I say Rangers waive Hollweg Claim Wellwood. whos with me at least hollweg is gone. come on sather waive hollweg

just stop saying stuff about hockey all together man.....you know hollweg and wellwood are two completely different players with no comparable skills or uses on a team.....so claiming one just to waive the other makes no sense what so ever....which is actually pretty par for the course...

If Byers shows he's ready...

for the NHL, Hollweg could very well be the 13th forward. I don't think Wellwood's his replacement. To be effective, I see the need for Wellwood to play third line minutes. And, unfortunately, much of his points were on the PP, which means his ES abilities are quite low. I actually liked him a couple years ago - thought he put up decent numbers - not sure what happened to him last season.

It's not just that, he's pretty redundant to what the Rangers already have, no?

.

If that picture is recent then pass pass pass. That just absurd he looks like that. I don't care if he has broken leg, you don't loose that much in a few weeks. I know over the top but he is a pro and looks like that, I'd waive him too..

Yeah, but for some reason everytime a forward becomes available posters here automatically put him on the 2nd line

I'm so sick of the rumors created by posters or by the NY media that we are in on every free agent. Kyle Wellwood? He sucked for the Leafs, a team that could not make the playoffs. Why the hell would we want him???

How about we find some good players for a change instead of recycling the trash? That would be nice.

Absolutely not. Unless there is a new rule change next season that gives out goals for catching the puck between your legs with your stick, this would probably be a worse move than Dunham.

Jeez, and next thing is you'll ask us not to sign over 35 year old players for $5MM+++!

Watching him...

I thought he was a hustler. His name was called a lot. Guess that's why he was waived by Toronto.

We already have enough small, skilled players. Wellwood looks really soft besides. I mean 0 penalty minutes in 06-07 and 07-08? What is that? Is he involved at all?

writing off jagr, EH? You'll be hard pressed to find "ufa" be as valuable for the amount of money we'll get away paying Jagr. I could see him taking a "discount" to stay with us and go for the prize one more year. Keep Dubi and Jags together on the top line. Sign a second liner UFA to play with Gomez and whoever. With new free agency rules there will always be a guy next year (or the year after) to replace Jagr on the first line.

Not sure if Jagr...

is going to take a discount (or that we can define what really is a discount). He's not coming here for free. There is a market for him outide the Rangers and outside the NHL. I would think he'd easily cost $7MM (plus bonuses) per, which is a decent amount less than what he received over the last three seasons. I can see the total package pushing $8MM (really, is Jagr worth less than Drury, who makes about $7MM per?).

I'm not a huge fan of Wellwood but he had a good rookie year, and in the games he played a really nice second season. Conditioning problems, compounded by injury, threw him off last year. He also talked about wanting a trade I think, which may have led to his being waived as well.

Bottom line, you get a chance you claim him and qualify him, unless qualifying him is somehow expensive. He should be a motivated guy after being waived. A guy like Briere was in a similar position at one time you know.
