Avery has such soul.

He is not a common man.

Not singing him is a bad mistake.

Sather you are a jerk, back to your old crap.

He's not worth 3 million in soul

As for Tucker , I would take him for a million and plug him on a Dubinsky and Callahan line

I am 100% not for signing Tucker. I think Avery is an irreplaceable asset and any attempt to try to fill that gap with a player like Tucker won't bode well for the team. I would like Avery to be back but if we can't have him then we move on and make a smart signing, not an impulse one and hope that Tucker fills a niche role that I can't see any way he fits into.

I have faith that Sather will be smart about this one.

I don't know what he's doing this off season, but knowing Slats, I think he has a few tricks up his sleeves and we're going to either be incredibly pissed off on July 1st or pleasantly surprised. We'll just have to wait to find out which one we're getting.

If Avery signs with the Islanders, we should IMMEDIATELY sign Tucker, just for the sake of neutralizing Avery when we play him.

i disagree.....if the rangers are that worried about one player than thats a bad thing....however their are a couple of players who neutralize avery....ruutu and laraque....although i think having orr would help keep him quiet

When I hear Bob McKenzie say it it's confirmed to me. He said the Rangers asked about trading for his rghts ala Habs but decided against it. I think if we are asking for his rights in a trade we are interested in getting him for nothing 7/1.

Why are you guys and Sather so cheap? Just pay the guy, who cares if its 3 million, or even more--he's worth it.

I actually think the buy-out of Tucker hurts Avery's value. Some people feel that they are the same player but Tucker will get a much cheaper contract. Hopefully im right.

Darcy Tucker?

I don't know why some of you want Darcy Tucker, the guy isn't getting younger and hes a dirt bag. Give Avery a Rick Dipietro contract and lock this guy up for life lol

This whole Avery thing....here is my take.

My gut says he will be back...at the Rangers' price. The reason being is that this public 'leak' that the Rangers won't sign him was done for a reason. Kind of a little jab to Avery, letting him know they are serious. Where else would he want to play?

This situation reminds me of when I was in Pittsburgh and Plaxico Burress was a free agent. I told my buddies that he would look good with the Giants. Burress had a workout with the team and then after a few days of negotiating, Acorsi 'leaks' that the Giants are no longer in the running for Burress. A few days later, Burress signs with the Giants. There are strategic reasons for what is leaked usually. My point is that Sather is taking the Rangers out of the mix publicly so that Avery can't use them in a bidding war.

Same thing with the Yankees and A-Rod.

Just because things are said in the press, doesn't mean it will happen. I feel that there will be a compromise because both sides need each other.

This is all part of the game folks...not only in hockey, but in the real world too.

If Sather let's Avery walk, it only proves that the Drury remark of taking a bullet for him was all bull. I truly dislike the guy, but I must say he's been a big part of the Rangers success for the past 1 1/2 seasons and wouldn't mind seeing him skip town. And the only reason Sather let's him walk in my opinion is that the rumors that he's disliked by many of his teammates are true. $3 million per isn't bad for Sean Avery the player, but the person, looks like another story.

His agent has denied all of this.

As for Avery, the way you neutralize him is by ignoring him (see Sabres, Buffalo May 2007 or Penguins, Pittsburgh May 2008).

What I don't understand is this call to "just sign him" to what, exactly? Exactly what he's asking for? You want to talk about cap busters, let's sign a a guy who's never scored more than 20 goals, or yet to play an entire season for us, $4MM+ for 4 years. Yeah, that's a good investment. Ugh.

I have no trouble signing Avery (or Jags or Sundin or whomever) for contracts that are worth their production, but just because a bunch of mancrushers live vicariously through Avery, and giggle like schoolgirls when he provokes other teams, doesn't mean we should go off the board and give him whatever he asks.

Here's the reality: we will win with or without Avery. He helped provide a spark for the team when Jagr was down and we needed that energy. We got lots of energy guys now, and if Avery REALLY wants to play in NY, then he's got to meet Slats somewhere in the middle.

Every report of his asking price has been based 100% on speculation. Last season, he wanted his salary doubled, so a lot of people assume he's now asking for 3.5-3.8M. I personally think he's in the range of 4-5... that's the kind of player he is. The god complex is there, and to be honest, I really don't think he's all that popular in the locker room... seems like he'd be a very difficult guy to get along with everyday.

Remember in February or so when Avery surprised Sather wanted to extend him? I guess he's done a 180... and then therewas a report of a one-year 2.8M discussion, I'd have been on that bandwagon in a heartbeat... open market, he's a 2.5-2.75M player... I'd give him 3.2 max.
