your Suprise non-qualifiers/qualifiers

Dallas Stars

Suprised they qualified

Khomitski Polak (Euros who will not likely play here)
Waltier (no Talent)

Suprised they did not qualify

Vas showed improvement every year I assume having no AHL affliate cost us him

Pens qualified all their RFAs except Fleury (arbitration)

I was thinking with Caputi, Johnson, and Jeffrey being on the AHL squad next year that they might let some guys go, but they didn't.

I'm surprised the Habs qualified Corey Locke. Not because he's bad, but because he's so far down the depth charts he's got no shot at making the NHL, and has no trade value. Wouldn't be surprised to see him waived/traded in the offseason.

You say he has no trade value then you say you wouldn't be surprised if he got traded? Hasn't he already said he's playing in Switzerland next year or something like that? Qualifying him was probably just to retain his rights for if he ever comes back. He's not ever going to be an nhl regular.

I'm surprised Carolina didn't qualify Kevin Nastiuk. He had some injury trouble this past season but was real good when he was playing. Send him to the echl or loan him out to another ahl club but don't give up on him. Not like we have any other goalie prospects who look like a sure thing.

I meant traded in the "traded for future considerations" manner, or as a throw-in. Yeah he's supposedly gotten an offer from Switzerland but hasn't signed as far as I know.
Probably just to retain his rights, but honestly if he doesn't go to Switzerland he might actually sign his QO.

Fletcher sounded positive about the players he already has:

Matt Stajan has been offered a qualifying contract, the Leafs locking up his rights for next season. The checking centre may opt for salary arbitration, but talks are continuing at reaching a longer deal.

He wasn't a 1st round pick. I can't remember off the top of my head where he was drafted.

Guillaume desbiens was drafted in the 4th round, 116th overall. Judging by his stats, he was likely a run of the mill enforcer

edit: ^^ you beat me by couple of seconds lol

There will be. The NHL releases one, but I can't remember how long it usually takes.

Terrible hockey name too.

No chance of making it with a name like that

Very suprised to Kaigaradov sp? signed to a qualifying offer by the Yotes. I hope this means he is still interested in playing in the NHL

Was he signed? Or just qualified to retain his rights?

If nothing else, they release that huge list of all the free agents around June 30th or so.

sorry, just qualified at this point.

I wonder if he knows Tikhonov very well?

Could he be intrigued by playing with Lisin & Victor?

I sure hope so, as the deadline to qualify has already passed. I would be completely shocked if they didn't though. Many teams haven't announced who they qualified yet (incl. the Oilers).

Not really surprising on the Kings end, but they didn't qualify Petr Kanko (numerous personal problems) and Dany Roussin (Sidney Crosby's Juniors leech).
