What is Plan C? There are no other big scoring wings on the UFA market.

If they can't sign either?

#1 Draft Pick sounds like a miserable but eventually good plan C.

Even without any big names, I doubt the Rangers will be bad enough to be in the mix for a lottery pick next year, not with Henrik Lundqvist between the pipes.

plan c would probably entail going after one of the rolston, vrbata, huselius types on the market.

to me it comes down to what Jagr does. For either Jagr or Hossa my thoughts are that signing either long term would be a mistake--that though it might benefit us in the short term that it would tie our hands on future moves to Jagr who is already 36 or to Hossa who is not really an elite/money player. It may mean no playoffs in 08-09 but any other large long term contracts have to be for an elite player and if that player isn't on the market--we'd be better off just plugging holes as best we can.

I hope we don't sign Hossa. I hope we sign Jagr for a reasonable 1 or 2 year contract. If we don't sign either, we play with the team we got, and hopefully make a move at the trade deadline.

Agree and been saying this for a bit now. I hope we make plays for the future of our defense.

Jagr is not going anywhere but NY...........it will get done and likely before July 1st hits

Thinking they are going to sign Campbell or Redden and a lesser known like Montador for D

The D is the #1 concern to me and then seeing what Forwards will fall

with the cap on the rise this should only help their cause

I really never thought of Hossa as an NYR option and would be surprised if Sather even makes a bid that could compare to some of the offers he will get.

The way the FA's have been handled, it really feels like Sather's up to something besides 1 or 2 notable UFA signings and a few hole-fillers. I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the team's biggest off-season acquistion is through a trade.

Try drafting some stars. It angers me when a team's game plan is to steal FA.

In order to do such a move we have to be close to getting PO spot comes end of Feb.. Not possiible with mediocre players you suggest we have to settle for.

My answer to original "What if..." question would be "SATHER SHOULD BE FIRED".
What for? For his failure to sign a marquee performers. Like Jarg or Hossa.

It's already been devised:

New York Rangers present: Plan C

I think there is zero chance he's a Ranger next year. Or else I think he'd have already extended.

I think I did, some may say sign but really they are taking away from a team that placed money time and development into a player. Am I angry we didn't get any compensation for Gomez, Rafaski and Niedermayer. Yes, we should have gotten 3 1st round picks, instead we got nothing.

are you kidding me?

Lou had all those guys rights for 8-10 yrs for christs sake!!!

How long should you have "rights" that you should be compensated if they leave?

And maybe if Lou didn't run the franchise the way he does and didn't hammer them when he had all the leverage they'd still be in black and red!

Too funny.

I'd think that the Rangers have one of the higher homegrown to non homegrown ratios in the league.

Lundqvist

Tyutin, Girardi, Staal

Hollweg, Dawes, Prucha, Dubinsky, Callahan

plus you have: Betts, Avery, Sjostrom, Mara and Jagr acquired via trade, and Orr being acquired through waivers.

Up against: Gomez, Drury, Shanahan, Straka, Malik and Rozsival being free agent signings.

Well, that's Lou's fault, isn't it? The whole purpose of being a UFA is to seek the best contract you can, because your earning potential as a pro hockey player is limited.

Don't blame the Rangers, blame Lou. He could've signed them all.
