Levitate - to me this signals a (mini) rebuild, not total but a rebuild.

I agree with you, it's going to be interesting to see who our top 6 are and how potent it's gonna be.

That's what I told him, but he doesn't listen to reason!

This has been a long 20 minutes since I saw the post about the presser @ 1030!

Agreed, we need that man back in blue. Press conference sounds ominous though...

Yeah I just haven't gotten around to doing the ad blocker thing yet. I don't normally care about ads, but hfboards has started using some annoying ones that pop up no matter what.

anyways, the Rangers are just in a somewhat awkward spot. They don't want to spend another $8 mill+ on a wing, but they don't quite have prospects ready to help out...so it's either go with a weak lineup on the wing, or hope Jagr will come back at a respectable rate for a year or two

Maybe this is the year we get a real sense of what our prospects are really about? I agree that without Jagr, our forwards will have to deal with other teams' top pairings, but perhaps this what they need? The challenge is to be competitive without Jags, who will step up?

My thoughts exactly.

We can't afford another rebuild. We may end up doing that. Slats should have had Jagr happy by having top notch C on his line. He signed DRUMEZ instead. So here we have it...

As much as we love him i think he needs to take the money and play in Omsk.

I call it the recipe for disaster. Rangers do not have a respectable AHL squad to be placed on NHL ice. Neither they will.

I gotta say I see the the biggest problem with Jagr possibly signing to play in Omsk the quality minutes (top line and top power play minutes) that he will take from Cherepanov. If this were to happen I would relaly hope that Cherepanov comes over here this year and learns in the AHL or the NHL, because he might get fewer minutes than the past two seasons combined playing behind a $35 million/man.

IT's amazing how people respond when given the opportunity. I'd rather do that then sign Sundin.

Let's just say we didn't pay 14 million for Gomez and Drury to play them with guys like Sjostrom, Callahan, and Dawes. If Jagr leaves, that's quite alright. Sather just HAS to get off his ass and get us atleast one respectable, high level winger preferably through trade or RFA.

Or is this a calculated plan to tank just this year, grab the 2009 1st overall, and compete in 2009-2010?

Look, I have no way way of knowing Jagr's financial situation, but if this report is even close to being true than he has to be seriously considering it.

I feel he's been good to the Rangers. I hope Sather treated him with the proper respect.

If Jagr signs in Russia, build the team around Lundy, Gomez, Drury. If Jagr doesn't sign and we get him for 1 to 2 years, continue to play with Jagr's team. The man is still an absolute beast, and a huge threat in the NHL, we all saw it during the end of the season and during the playoffs.

What we all seem to forget about Jagr is that whenever he is on the ice, so is the opposing teams no. 1 dman. With Jagr on the team it opens up the ice for the Gomez and Drury lines.

Either way this situation pans out, I'm going to be happy. Jagr signs and we continue to win. Jagr leaves and we can finally put the finishing touches on this 'rebuild' of ours, and yes, continue to win.

How are we going to build a team around lundy? You know he's goalie?

I'm beginning to think this press conference was much ado about nothing. Doesn't Jagr co-host a beauty pageant or something every year around this time?

We already saw a glimpse of that last year... We can DEFINITELY make the playoffs with the blueprint we had last season and increased production from our new blood until Cherepanov, Sanguinetti, Anisimov, etc arrive... Our team defense was hard to match this past season...
