Bertuzzi on Waivers - Cleared - UFA July 1st

He would cost 4 million a yr for only one more yr

If the Rangers say they need BIG wingers well he is that

It think it solves the Gomez line with Dawes and Bertuzzi

I say take a chance

We were interested in him at the '07 deadline. I wouldn't be surprised if we claimed him. and I'd probably take him over Malone.

Don't want him at all. Surprised he's on waivers though.

I would, have been a Bertuzzi fan for a number of years (before and after the incident) his game isnt the same as when he was a star with the canucks but he still has it IMHO and would be great on a wing with either gomez or dubi.

Let's hear all the "This is a good 'stop-gap' move till every one of our prospects are ready for next season" rants.

If he wasn't so injury-prone, I'd say he'd be a good fit. However, like I said in another thread, he's a scum bag.

Ok this is a good stop gap move..............but seriously it is a good one yr pickup

Once again the Ranger prospects are real good players but no one is top line except for maybe Dubinsky...........Dawes is a good #2 winger for Gomez and someone on the right side.........oh wait Bertuzzi?

You beg for a big Forward well here he is...........name another FA like him who can score and be a big force

This is typical Ranger fan thinking and it needs to stop.

Have you watched him play recently? He's horrible. He thrived in a league where players like him could break the rules for their own advantage with their size and strength. That doesn't happen as much anymore, if at all. This is his buddy Brian Burke that's cutting him loose. There's a reason for that.

The best-managed team in the NHL, the Stanley Cup Champion Detroit Red Wings, has only made one real mistake that I can think of in the last number of years, and that was when they traded for Bertuzzi.

id take him as a backup move, malone might not even want to come to the rangers. maybe he goes out west, who knows. why pass on bertuzzi, and wait till malone. i can see sather intrested big time, and heck he took a chance with lindros, i can see bertuzzi a ranger.

He's done it in the past a bunch of times. Malone reached 50 pts once and that was with one of the best centers in the game. It is highly unlikely he'll reach 50 playing with Gomez.

That being said, I'd rather have Malone but if we don't land him, I wouldn't mind Bertuzzi for a year.

bertuzzi dubinsky jagr if jagr resigns, wow that line can do damage, at least bertuzzi or dubinsky would go to the net.

I don't hold grudges for things guys have done to other people. But to me, Bertuzzi doesn't have it any more. He flopped on the defending champs. He flopped on the Red Wings. He's not going to find it here. He doesn't have the wheels to keep up with Gomez, and if we're going to sign an over the hill guy who's best days are behind him, I'd rather keep a good guy like Shanny than a bad one like Bertuzzi.

A 33 year old...

power forward making $4MM per coming off a 14 goal season (zero in six playoff games) - and 15 games the season before, 25 goals the season before and prior to that 17 goals...not sure that's value. His team may've been offensively challenged, but

Uhh, what? Flopped on the Wings? He played eight games there. Flopped on the Ducks? He played 68 games, and had 40 points. That put him on pace for a 48 point season. Given the current economy in the NHL, 4m a year for a guy average the points he did is the norm. Sure, there are anomalies, guys making less and getting more points, but overall, it's not bad.

Bert hasn't been himself ever since the Moore incident. Bert definitely ****ed up, but Moore doesn't need to file lawsuits every time Bertuzzi's name is making news. That'll do things to a guy.

It wouldn't be the worst move we've ever made. He could be a decent producer on the second line. I know the Moore incident was a serious, serious offense, but I'm always willing to give a guy a second chance.

I'd prefer other players to Bertuzzi, but I wouldn't be upset if we claimed him.
