Rangers intrested in Dan Boyle?

Apparently Dan Boyle has been placed on the Trading Block and the Rangers are one of the teams in the "Running" for him.

Besides the Senators, the Thrashers, Blackhawks, Sharks, Panthers, Rangers, Canucks and Leafs would be interested in Boyle, who earned 25 points in 37 games last season.

We had interest in him at the deadline already.

The Rangers would be, but why the hell would they have just re-signed him only to trade him?

I would take Boyle over any of the free agents to be honest. Not happening though.

Ownership switched since then, who knows.

Still, there's a billion teams interested and they all shouldn't be. That contract is horrendous and he's a horrid horrid defensive player.

I don't see why we'd trade for Boyle when we could just sign virtually an identical player in Campbell who is two years younger than Boyle, for about the same price.

Unless of course we somehow offload some other contracts, but I doubt Tampa Bay has any interest in Backman.

Feaster is gone.

prior to the February trade deadline, indications are the new management team in Tampa has decided to go in a different direction

Boyle will cost tons of good players and Campbell or Redden are UFA's

so I go with the UFA

Considering the new ownership team actually had a part in crafting Boyle's contract, supposedly, it wouldn't make much sense to turn around and move him.

When was the last time someone signed a contract the magnitude of Boyle's and was traded before the contract even kicked in?

Ain't gonna happen.

Certainly there will be interest based on a) Rangers were in on him at the deadline before he signed contract extension and b) he and Renney have some history together (I am not sure exactly where)

Short window -- Tampa has to do something by June 30th -- complicates this. UFA is preferable but may not be achieveable. Boyle's contract isn't that bad considering some of the posturing around what Campbell might get on the open market.

If Campbell is indeed looking for 6.5 i'd rather get Campbell, and if Campbell is looking at 7 I'd rather have Boyle.

500k is worth the talent we'd have to give up to acquire Boyle?

New ownership, but unless something happened I didn't hear about, Jay Feaster is still the GM of TB.

Oh god, I just noticed who was reporting this story.

The Sun can't even be considered a legitimate newspaper. Probably completely made up.

Because after signing LeCavalier they're in salary cap hell now. I don't know. I like Boyle--he's a talented and agressive little pisspot of a d-man but 6.7 mil is a lot. I don't think so unless we're going to pay about the same for Campbell--in that case I'd rather have Boyle.

I'd rather not give up the assets and sign Campbell, who might be slightly better defensively, and is definitely more physical.

I've seen more than enough of these two to tell you that Campbell would be the better fit for this team.

No way in hell that Campbell is more physical than Boyle. Boyle is Chris Chelios light. He can be very very nasty. I've watched Campbell for years upstate here--on the Sabres channel Empire and now that they're on MSG as well. He's not very physical at all.

Dan Boyle is head and shoulders above Brian Campbell in all facets of the game.
