On the RDS article http://www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/254643.html

They were traded for a fourth round pick.

Roberts has signed with Tampa Bay and if Malone signs with them, they will receive a third round pick instead of a fourth round pick.

3rd if Malone signs, 4th if not, gives you an idea of what "rights" in late June should be woth, so a 2nd for Sundin would be plenty...

The difference according to what Gainey said is if he doesnt sign sundin he pays nothing. So my guess would be if he signs him he pays a little bit more.

Wow.. Tampa Bay may not be that bad next year..

Jokinen - Lecavalier - Prospal
St. Louis - Stamkos - Malone?
Roberts - Halpern - Ouellet
Ward - Tarnarsky - Jones

O'Brien - Boyle
Kuba - Ranger
Linden - Picard

Smith
Ramo

An upgrade in goal would be good (Theodore?).. but they are looking solid.

Actually, I really don't get why we should've paid anything for the so-called "exclusivity" in the first place....If we don't talk to Sundin, Fletcher gets nothing, by giving us the right to talk him, there was some chances that we would come to an agreement before UFA time giving Fletcher some compensation that shouldn't be higher than it should be 'cause in the end, again, it's nothing or something for Toronto. It's not like if Toronto would've got something anyway but because we had some head start the compensation has to be bigger.

But giving the Leafs something even if we don't sign him is ridiculous.

The problem with TB is defense and in goal.

Mike Smith has shown nothing just yet.

Boyle missing most of last year didn't help either. That'd be like us losing Markov... but I do agree they are still weak overall on D and in goal.

There top-2 can rival ours, no doubt about it.

O'Brien is better than Komisarek, but Markov is better than Boyle.

It's from there, then begin to downgrade. Ranger is good, but he's not as good as Hammer. Kuba is on the downhill. And their #5 and #6 are too young to predict.

With the addition of Stamkos, Malone, and Roberts, Tampa Bay should jump up a number of places in the standings.

You think Mike Smith is a no1 goalie?

I like O'Brien but he is definitely not better than Komisarek.

IMO, O'brien doesn't even come close to Komisarek

An upgrade in goal would be good (Theodore?).. but they are looking solid.
- Tampa Bay was the worst NHL team last year and Prospal and Richards were there...
- Stamkos replaces Richards (downgrade, in my opinion, for the next year at least...)
- Halpern is injured until december...

Why not bad??? Because they added Malone and Jokinen? WOW!!!

No goalie and no defense... You can't go anywhere with this...

Don't think you will find to many GM's that think your way. O'Brien is a 5th or 6th Dman on the Habs.

Also a 43 year old grinder and a 40-50 point player won't make too much of a difference IMO

You see what happens when a player wants to play for the team who has his rights? Roberts has already signed and Malone will be done by monday. And this is for a LAST place team. Meanwhile Sundin is busy picking his ass in sweden playing the lick my balls game with Gainey.

Or we see what happens when a team trades for a 43 year old player who many teams in the league don't want anymore.

Also if they sign Malone by Monday they are obviously going to overpay for him, even moreso than he would've got overpaid on July 1st..

Roberts cant be too picky. Malone is about to strick it big for the first time.

Sundin has to decide if he still wants to play and where he wants to end is career.

It's funny how offended some of the "Everything is owed to me" generation is when someone doesn't do what they want right away.

Not that for me though because Gainey acquired his rights doesn't mean that Sundin want to go there.

People are being frustrated 'cause they're beginning to realize that another one will look another way.....I don't think that they're offended 'cause he's not doing something right away but mostly 'cause we won't be doing it at all....or that's my belief.

Wondering if it would not have been possible for Gainey, before making that "deal" to just wonder via Fletcher if Sundin is actually considering retirement at this point. If so, don't you think that a big decision like that wouldn't take 1 week and it doesn't matter who has the exclusivity? Seems that Gainey speaks to him every day and every day we keep hearing that Sundin says his mind isn't made up....What's the point in talking to him then? Is he suddenly going to wake up June 31st and because it's crunch time he'll take a decision like that?.....if or course the whole "retirement" thing is true....which I don't believe but again it's just an opinion.

Sundin might hate the Leafs but I don't believe he'll sign with us after July 1st.....unless the deal stands even if he signs before. Maybe the deal is not if the signing is before July 1st....it could be the exclusive rights before July 1st and if you sign him, the deal stands no matter when you sign him.

Anyway, just have the feeling that he's thinking of retirement only because TO and Montreal are in the picture right now....I'm that pessimistic about that "deal". As soon as the Rangers starts dancing, Sundin will start realizing.......
