What About Rolston?

Everyone around here seems like they have Sundin-fever
And while I agree that Sundin is everything we're looking for I really feel he won't make a decision for a while.
So why not go after Brian Rolston come Tuesday?

Height: 6'2"
Weight: 214 lbs
Shoots: Left

-He's scored 30 or more goals in every season since the lockout.
-He's only missed 6 games in the last 6 seasons.
-He will cost less than a Sundin/Hossa/Jagr

Pros:
- He has decent size to go with his speed, which is more than enough to keep up with our style of play
- He has a big slapshot, and could possibly replace Streit on the point for the powerplay
- He has played LW/RW/C before

Cons:
- He's not as big and imposing a center as Sundin, Holik, etc...
- I'm not sure how he is on faceoffs seeing as he was originally a RW converted to C in Minny.

Anyways just trying to get some of you to think of someone other than Sundin for a few minutes, I think it would be good for your health.
Not to mention it could reduce the number of people who will suffer from severe depression after Sunding doesn't sign here.

He'd be a nice fallback option, but I think he'll reach a deal with TB.

Yeah I just saw this when I was looking for some info on him.

So is this the same type of thing that we have going between us and Sundin?
Or is it definite that he signs with Tbay?

Same thing we have going with Sundin... except that even if he doesn't sign Tampa is giving some compensation... the pick gets better if he does sign....

P.S. there are many Rolston threads... Search is your friend.

It's not definite though contrary to Montreal, it seems to me that any other teams that obtain the rights, reach an agreement....we just love to do things differently here...

I believe that's why a deal has been made already with picks while we didn't have a deal in place the same way TBay and the Wild did.

But they get a compensation pick anyway for losing him so it's a wash.

Zero interest.
Ditto. I just don't see the value.

Do the Habs seriously need a 2nd line / 3rd line winger of 35 years old in their lineup?

I don't think so. That would be a serious waste of money.
No Rolston for me, neither.

I like Rolston in that he's a big shot off the wing. He isn't much of a C imo, but he's one of those guys who came up as a C so he'll forever get listed as one.

I don't always, or hardly ever actually, agree with PJ Stock, but he was saying how Rolston's a nice guy and all but he's shy about physical battles.

I've read posters say he'd add grit and I was too lazy to quetion if this was a different Rolston.

I say, after another sleepless night to add a C. If you can't get Sundin, with his obvious impact, look for a larger physical C who can play minutes against good offensive players, and is fundamentally sound.

So I'll not read the board when Smolinski bigger is signed.

Rolston testing the market...

The Tampa Bay Lightning gave it their best shot, but forward Brian Rolston is going to unrestricted free agency.

Sources say Rolston informed the Lightning this morning that he would become an unrestricted free agent at 12 noon and see what the market will bear for his services.

That doesn't mean he won't sign with Tampa after 12 noon eastern, only that he will field offers from all teams interested and then make his decision.

No Rolston for me, neither.
For some reason people here think he can just slide in and be our #3 center even though he hasn't consistently played the position for many years, it'd pretty much be like Higgins being put at center as Rolston is pretty weak on faceoffs too and has been more comfortable on the wing. By the looks of it he'll get $4.5 million or more so i'd rather Bob just save the money instead.
