This team needs to cut the cord on the Jagr era.

1. Rolston
2. Orpik
3. Avery

Very simple - I think Ryder on Gomez's wing would be deadly. I also think he's going to be way undervalued coming off of his down year. So, I want a 3 or 4 year Ryder deal at a reasonable price over a 1 year Jagr rental. And I very much want it over a 2-3 year chaining of the team to a declining Jagr.

However, I do want that 1 year Jagr rental (more obviously than a deal with any of the other potential FA signings out there, since I listed it as one of my "three") because, barring a trade this offseason, we're going to need his scoring until we can find a way to replace it at the trade deadline/next year's FA period/through the development of the kids (which in all likelihood means Cherepanov in North America).

Does this mean that I think that Ryder is a better player than Jagr? No, it means that I think he's a better fit for this team - especially going forward into 09 and beyond.

you'd rather have Ryder over the likes of Rolston, Sundin, JJ, Huselias, Naslund, and Demitra

Bubblegum...

what happens the season after next...Sundin and Jagr are signed to two years at $6.5MM bases each plus bonuses that kicked in and there's $2MM of dead cap space. Add that to Lundqvist (call it $6.875MM) plus Gomez and Drury at a combined $14.3MM and a defenseman the Rangers signed at $5MM per year. So the Rangers are then committed to $41MM for six people. Let's say the cap only goes to $58MM. You have $17MM left for the rest of the team and there are UFAs under 30 years old available and who will cost about $8MM. Is that the situation the Rangers should be in? I really don't see either Jagr or Sundin signing for only one year. I also don't see how the Rangers can really afford to have both of them either (and address other issues). Perhaps Sather will show me tomorrow how that can be done.

so we shouldn't go after Rolston or Brunnette either.

Drury I still hate your contract and I hope we buy you out after next season.

Brunette will go back to minne and he is not that old

Rolston still makes sense for the Gomez line to me..............BUT I agree go with more youth

I am ok with them signing Hagman and Vrbata who are 28

Hossa, Commodore, Rolston over the consensus Jagr,Orpik, Rolston.

Can't swallow 2 year deals for JJ or Mats.

I like most would rather have Orpik between the two, but Commodore gives you 95% of what Brooks does for prob half the price.

Not sure Commodore is intimidating as Orpik, but i see the direction you are heading in.

One thing going for Commodore... hes won a cup.

I agree with this.

Campbell is a great offensive d-man, but is poor defensively. Redden is just not the same player he used to be. He's not particularly productive, his defense is inconsistent at best, and he makes horrible decisions with the puck. Someone is going to pay Redden a lot of money based on the player he was 3 years ago and he's going to wind up as a black mark on some team's cap.

Rozsival is the best all-around d-man on the market. I'd prefer him to Orpik because while Orpik is a nice player, our bigger priority should be a d-man who can log a lot of ice time. Orpik is more of a depth player.

As for the forwards, Jagr and Sundin give us two top-level forwards that aren't going to tie up money long-term. With Drury, Gomez, and Lundqvist signed long-term, I'd worry about our ability to retain our own players in a few years if we start throwing out 6 or 7 year contracts to Hossa and Campbell.

1. Jagr
2. Orpik
3. Huselius - thats right...could be a nice addition to our 2nd line and our PP. He's got a ton of skill and put up good numbers on a defensive team.

Plus I don't think we'd have to break the bank for him, so we could get a good 2nd liner for about 3-4 million.

I don't even consider Avery anymore because I know hes gone.

completely incorrect. All bonuses must be added on to this years cap because technically the NHLPA can opt out of the CBA after this year and therefore there are no lay-over bonuses allowed.
