Pandolfo......a Ranger?

I'm not one to post here at all, but according to Tom Gulitti (on his blog), Scott Gomez and Chris Drury (Pando's Boston Uni-mate) have given "glowing references" to Senior Management.

My question to you is, how would you feel about having another Devil on your team?

Personally, I would hate it, obviously.

Pandolfo's a nice player, but, the Rangers don't need another 3rd line player.

Pandolfo's had a very nice career--but the Rangers have too many holes to fill and I doubt they're going to spend serious money on a 3rd line player. I think Jay is most likely to re-sign with New Jersey.

Pandolfo, who earned $836,000 last season, was believed to be seeking a multi-year contract worth at least $2 million per season

Would love Pandolfo on the Rangers and so would Renny

Pandolfo is just one of those guys who, while only being a "nice" player, just helps teams win. I am not sure where exactly he would slot into the roster, but I do know that he would be a welcome addition to a PK unit that will surely take a hit this year with Straka not returning. That said, $2 million for a probable 3rd line winger is not reasonable in the cap era, and the Rangers have a bunch of kids ready for that spot, so this one will surprise me a lot if it goes down.

maybe he would be coming to fill a void of 3rd liners after our blockbuster trade today?

I'm sure...

he'd get glowing references - he's a very good player and I would've been thrilled if he had come up through the Rangers' system. Not sure I'd be thrilled about him signing with the Rangers though, not too upset, but not too thrilled either.

Gomez commented on this a while back (during the season)- I can't remember where. His comments made me feel like it was a done deal that Pandolfo will be a Ranger.

Like Pandolfo. But the Rangers seem set with third liners. He probably could get more elsewhere.

Pandos injury softened his stats and impact last season. He was already under paid. Its a steal and Sather loves to buy low as much as he loves landing a Marquee player.

Did Pando shadow Jagr/any players in the league at all last year?

I remember when he did shadow Jagr, it was a huge pain in the ass

Does this say that the Rangers are going after legit talent so they can have a legit checking line?

Sounds like they are going for it.

But one thing about Pandolfo is, he knows how to win thats for sure - he can definitely assume the role of the lockeroom Shanahan as well.

Pandolfo is THE SHADOW

But Renny doesnt like matching up guys like that. He loves to go top line vs top line. Maybe we'll see some new strategy next year

were overloaded with 3rd 4th and heck if they had a 5th line wed be overloaded with that as well. i dont see what pandalfo brings that betts does not, pandalfo may score a bit more but it aint much and he is 33 if we want another 3rd liner id take cooke, pettinger, who are younger and do the same job and are not afraid to drop the gloves.

Devil fan here. Jay is a great player, for what he does. The problem is that he's an amazing shadow, but the problem is there is no offensive upside to that. So he's out there, let's say for 20 minutes against a top player. That's great. But in those 20 minutes it's almost guaranteed non scoring from him (and de facto, his line).

That's not true. Pandolfo doesn't score a ton, but his line (with guys like Madden) generally hold their own while shutting down the other team's top guy.

I could see him going to a youth heavy team like Chicago or LA to help them with their defense and provide some veteran leadership. As stated above, we seem to have guys who are younger and cheaper to fill that role. If he does come here, I'm not going to pitch a fit, however.

Pando was a ball and chain to Madden offensively in 2006-2007. Stone hands too.

Renney has similar tactics to Julien, so I would'nt bet on Pando scoring much at all, if Super Jay signs in NY.

I wouldn't hate it but I don't necessarily agree with adding another 3rd/4th line player. If it means that I never have to see Ryan Hollweg take a shift for us again though I'm all for it.

we would kill about 98% of our penalties off with Betts, drury and pandolfo

i wouldnt mind pandolfo, he's very good defensively (which is a system we are trying to move towards) and its not like he has never scored a goal before. I wouldnt actively go after him, but if he's available and we still have a whole to fill, i wouldnt mind getting him

A 4th line of Pando - Betts - Sjostrom would be pretty fantastic. Very fast, very effective defensively, and able to cycle the puck in the offensive zone. Not necessarily many scoring chances, but more than with Hollweg and Orr out there, at least.
