Cherepanov, Prucha and Tyutin and a 2nd rounder in 09 and 10 for Rick Nash.

I think Orpik is actually a good fit, because of Renney's defensive schemes will help his own zone play. I think he's a Ranger at 12:01pm.
I wouldn't doubt it, nor would I be really upset by it unless it is for an asinine contract. Again i wouldn't go for over 4yrs (3 would be ideal) and i would try to keep him under $4mil.

I think playing for Pitt has overhyped him a little and as a result he will get $4mil which is not what he is worth. Remember he will be a 3rd pairing player on this team. That's alot of money to be paying a 3rd pairing dman. We complained about mara and backmans $2.3 mil. I forsee alot of complaints about Orpiks $4mil for a 3rd pairing dman.

Orpik is the interesting one... Is he another Gauthier or is he another Beukeboom?

This is true. His defense isn't that great, his other skills aren't that great. It's a complete crapshoot as to whether his few good months of play actually carry over.

I watch about 50 - 60 Pens games a year, so I've seen a lot of him. He was pretty bad last season, but he's made a dramatic improvement in his all around game. He has a tendency to leave his position to make the big hit, but if you want a big hitter, that's generally one of the side-effects.

He isn't the second coming of Scott Stevens or anything, but he's certainly a very capable defender. Frankly I'd rate him above Tyutin, Backman and Girardi on our depth chart in the defensive zone.

4 mil is an overpayment, but thats the price you have to pay in this market. If people keep saying "Oh no, too expensive.." you're not going to land many players in the new NHL.

If we landed Kaberle, I'd drive down to Slats house and hug him.

Maybe Cherepanov pulled a Malkin and escaped Russia in the middle of the night?

Uhhhh....

Why is Lundqvist, Girardi and Tyutin listed as unsigned?

Probably just a lot of movement going on on their site right? right?

something going on here?

That's what makes me nervous and not want him really. Especially for $4mil per season. he is another one of those players that really wouldn't get nearly as much if there were decent alternatives. These are the players I think we should stay away from, as they just turn into wasted cap space.

Yes. Just a screwup on the NHLPA site, it's not like their contracts they signed last year can just disappear

Well by last season I meant 06-07, not 07-08. Just wanted to clear that up.

He was very solid this year.

even if we dealt dubinsky , im sorry but after a good rookie year i think dubinsky can turn into our trevor linden like he was for the canucks. dubinsky like staal is untouchable, but if leafs wanted tyutin prucha 1st for kaberle, id do that, doubt the leafs would.

i think moving dubinsky is overpaying enough, lets move staal as well since he had a good rookie year , heck lets deal all our rookies after they had a good first year like we did in the past.

I doubt they would as well. They'd be a lot likelier to have heart attack-inducing bouts of unstoppable laughter before they would look at that offer and even think that it was serious.

I thought he was avg. But again do you want $4mil going to your#5 or #6 dman. That is the big question. Say this is our defense (very realistic):

Staal-Redden
Girardi-Tyutin
Backman-Orpik

do you realize taht our 3rd pairing would take up the most cap room. Unless Redden gets over $6mil.

to me that is horrible cap management.
