Interesting... Why Backes gets an offer I'm not sure, but he's a decent young player. I would expect the Blues to match. Here we go...

Hmm, very interesting indeed. He's a big, physical RW'er who could potentially score 20+ goals. Perfect fit for the Sedins IMO.
Edit: 2nd round pick compenstion. Can't see Blues walking away from this, but then again, they do have a lot of young forwards on the cusp so perhaps they don't want to commit that much to a player that could be a 3rd liner for them.

David Backes is a hitting machine. Like this offer.
Kesler on his way out to improve scoring?

how does adding Backes affect Kesler?
Backes fills one of the two big holes the team has on right wing... Kesler is still the team's top shutdown guy... not to mention that AV still loves him and uses him a lot... I don't think that Gillis will move him out that easily.

Interesting.
But at $2.5 million/year, I'd expect St. Louis to match with no issues at all. Not going to get ahead of anything until he's actually in a Canuck jersey at a press conference.

Decent guy, but they'll match. No need to pencil him in to the lineup.

Hrm. Can't see this not being matched. It's only a 2nd round compensation, and I figure Backes is worth more then that even at the given salary number.

Backes makes a lot of sense, but I think the Blues will match this. He will be worth $2.5 next year (just a hunch), but even if he isn't he will be the year after that.

I hope they don't match. David Backes would be an awesome fit with the Sedins.

wow impressed by this signing. Backes is big and plays a big game. I've read that his style is compared to keith tkachuk.
One of my post regarding "Inserting big bodies in line-up" included him.

At 2.5, I'm expecting the Blues to match this with no fuss.
