Bryce Salvador? Solid 5/6 defensive d-man for $2-2.5m/yr, if that?

I'm hoping the Coyotes can land Bryce Salvador and Jim Vandermeer, if they hit the open market(it's looking like at least Vandermeer will).

I'm gonna sound like a homer, but I think the Pens have a bunch who fit the mold: Mark Eaton, Pascal Dupuis, Jarkko Ruutu, Adam Hall... Gary Roberts if he can stay healthy (TB property now)

I loved Dominic Moore this year, he's good at faceoffs, on the PK, is good defensively, and a decent forechecker. He's also pretty fast. All this for 1 million bucks.

I agree. Dupuis is perhaps one of the most underrated players out there. Good speed, solid PKer, and if he lands in the right spot he is one of the better 3rd line wingers out there.

Stillman and Brunette will likely be bargains.

As has be said, Asham.

I was hoping he could go to the Lightning, as he would fill multiple needs, but it may not necessary with the recent acquisitions.

Tony Amonte? Still hasn't retired.. must be wanting to make a comeback. He can still skate and he put up a respectable 30pts in his last season playing on the Flames 3rd/4th lines.

If only he could finish. I can't count the number of times I've seen him streaking down the win, expecting a goal, only to laugh as he eats ice at the last minute. It's like, halfway into the Offensive zone, something clicks and he realizes "I'm Pascual Dupuis, I don't score goals" and busts his arse. I'll miss him in ATL. Power to the Duper

Someone looking for cheap forward depth might like Michael Ryan. Terrible finish (think: along the lines of Mike Grier), but he's a great skater (I'd rate him at 15 Brad Browns), works real hard and is a solid PKer. The Sabres have too many forwards right now, so the chances are that he isn't brought back.

What's with all the love with Asham? Seems like this time last year there was a consensus that he would be a great pickup for someone. Yeah, he's a decent pest but he's going to be 6 years removed from his only 30 point season and he's not as sound defensively as some other options

Is he a good example of "grit" being overrated on these boards? Or am I missing something about him?

Likes to bang in the corners, will drop the gloves, surprisingly good slapshot that he doesn't use enough. However, prone to defensive mistakes. Too much video of him a few feet away from the celebrating goal scorer. Kinda quiet in the locker room, no real trouble, leadership/teammate issue is neutral for him. Bottom line, if he was better than that, he would be a 2nd line guy instead of a "discount" UFA. Not a bad player at a low price, but don't expect more than an adequate 3/4 line guy.
