makes defense better, we overpaid and too many years but i think it will be worth it for the first 4 years, they could always buy im out 5 years from now if he stops producing and it only money out of Dolans pocket)

Currently have $19,016,667 tied up in our top 6 d men. You've gotta think that they are working on a trade with tyutin or getting rid of Backman

6.5 Million for 6 years?!

He was trash on the Sens last season, and now we will be paying him 6.5M when he is 36-37?

I would have been so happy with Orpik for 4.5 million, all well..still no toughness in the backend.

I like what this does for our defense, but I dunno. It is a lot of money.

Something's gotta give. My guess is Girardi.

The contract will be front loaded to make a buyout easier.

Just about everybody wanted a PP QB and they did not want to give up too much assets in a trade to acquire one, while also not breaking the bank to sign a UFA. The Rangers not have a legit PP QB.

Depending on the numbers, this is a very good signing imo.

5 top 4 D-men in Redden, Roszival, Staal, Girardi, and Tyutin. Now i'm just wondering what the pairings will be like.

i'm not going to make comments cuz i just don't know much about him.. his play has been going south, bounce-back candidate?

would have liked $5-6m for about 4-5 years also, but we'll see.. sheesh..

Backman will be in the AHL for sure now unless they can move him. a trade has to come for sure, with all the depth signings, and not much money left to fill in our top 6 holes. gotta believe Tyutin, Girardi, and perhaps gulp Staal will be moved along with perhaps some forwards for a top 6...

Backman can be sent to Hartford. However, I think this does portend a trade. You can include Callahan, Tyutin or Girardi, and either Dawes or Prucha, and get yourself a top six forward.

This sort of elminates a need for Backman and with the price of Defence his 2.5 mil dont look so bad a far as a trade goes... or we can just kasperitis him.

No offense guys, but as a Sens fan here, I hope the guy turns around his game, but we all honestly believe this guy has been done for a while. It was always his first pass that he was known for but that even has left him in the last two seasons.

It's a ridiculous amt of money to give the guy, and I can't honestly say that Manhattan is the best environment for him. I wish him well though and would love to see him be the comeback player of the year. He is a great community guy as well.
