I don't understand how they don't lock in Campbell with the same deal signed in Chicago. As if Brian would have chosen the Hawks over the Rags.

Hamrlik at 5.5M is not overpayment anymore and Markov at 5.75M is a bargain.

That's a lot, i thought he was going to get a pay cut. He is basically getting the same amount of money.

Buy him out at the beginning of the next period then, I don't care. Just get him off the team

Wow, talk about big time risk... They signed the 2008 Wade Redden, now the 2004... Do they know that?

Good news for us though, New York will probably we out of it now. Lundvist, Drury, Gomez and Redden eat up nearly 30M of their cap space...

Never thought of Hamerlik as an overpayment and Markov is a bargain for sure.

Just play him as the seventh d man, then let him go at the end of next year when his contract is up. We won't spend to the cap anyways.

How is Montreal not a favorite to get Hossa or Sundin now. No way NY can offard either at their asking price and they still need to sign more players.

I wonder if Mats woke up yet and realised that 1 or the 2 teams he wanted to play for probably can't go to the dance with him. I wonder if Montreal is starting to look a lot better now?

Not even last year? I can't remember one poster looking at Hamrlik as a good contract, myself included!

The contract sure looks good now!

Hey. Chicago is a team that is headed in the right direction. I'm not seeing that in NYR

Another reason to love Bob. Markov IMO is as good if not better than Campbell and certainly Redden who he is 3 years younger than. The more of these signings I see, the better I feel. We are not falling behind even though everyone else is getting some pickups. Heck, if Edmonton can make all these deals and we can't, that's when the frustration sets in. But man it must suck to be a Buffalo fan. They never sign anyone and continually lose assets on the open market. Who's next? Roy? Stafford? Miller?

It is a little expensive. I'm just tired to hear that Gainey is a genius only because he knows where the toilet is. Gainey knows what the UFA market is all about. He participated in it last year and if the guys would have agreed, he would have made some of the biggest mistakes out there....remember the amount for Brière....So Gainey is able to be as dumb as any other guys out there, he proved it last year. And he repeated to this day that he want to acquire a top-gun UFA this year....don't you think he's not aware that he won't have to overpay for this one again?

To get Hossa and Sundin, he will have to overpay, making it, as per HFboards standards as far as salary cap is concerned, a bad move.

Gainey is willing to play the UFA game, he's just lucky nobody wanted to come last year. Might not be the exact same thing this year but he clearly stated he wanted to improve his team. If he finds a way to do it without paying too much, I will comeback and called him a genius.

Actually, as far as the Kosty deal, I called it awesome, and was criticized for doing so......
Briere wouldn't have crippled us and Gainey still has his limits on a player and he's not afraid to bow out once the dollar amount becomes too detrimental. We might still get Sundin. Rangers have picked up some expensive contracts today including an insane contract to Redden. I'd rather BG stay quiet and pick up some gritty fillers (like Kostopoulos last year) then handcuff us with an insane contract.

I like Rolston too but that deal could be horrible. At 35, you're stuck with those numbers on the cap for the rest of the contract no matter what happens (retirement, injury, alien abduction, etc).

Have faith in our proven winner GM. The offseason has just begun.

Rangers started the day with 33.8 mil spent i believe.

If redden is 6.5 a year and holik is 2.5 +Rosival at 5 we're talking them at 47.8 right now, plus rissmiller and varos, i dont think they can get sundin either.

But then we'll end up overpaying for Tanguay, Koivu, Kovalev, Plekanec, Komisarek, Higgins even though he's RFA......unless there's some hometown discounts in there.

Though we will be saving Bouillon's, Dandenault's, Bégin's and Kosto's money, which comes to approx. 5.7 million...

We thought the same thing last year after they signed Drury.

But they've always found a way to wiggle between the rules. They'll do so again, given the chance.

A malkin deal is going to cure a lot of the Pens cap space. Like maybe 9 to10 mm

And Pittsburg still need to sign at least 2 forwards and 1 or 2 defensemen.

It's starting to look to me like 'the Hossman' could stay in Pittsburgh. Sundin, I'd say it's either Vancouver or Montreal. When money comes to play though, forget everything Sundin said before (about not wanting to play in the west) IMO.

they have 6.8 million cap space left

they have to sign at least 2 more forwards and a goalie
Unless they make a trade they can't even re-sign Jagr
