If Backman is waived, as expected, about 10M or so. Likely around 8M when you factor in Anisimov and Korpikoski if they make the team as I am speculating.

The buyout period was ending yesterday. So you can wave him but you need somoene to pick him.

Uh, maybe you don't understand salary rules, but the Rangers would waive him and place him in Hartford. No idea what you don't get about that.

I think Sather should quit while he's ahead, unless he wants to break the record for most questionable-at-best signings in a 24 hour period.

NYR Have 6.8 left with Patrick Rismiller not counted yet...don't know what he signed for yet, but looking like Hossa, Jagr, or Sundin are looking out of reach...unless a trade is made for space...

I'll say Tyutin for a winger.

Go ahead, Rangers, overpay someone else. I don't know which I find funnier: Wade Redden's contract or Jeff Finger's.

Rangers need winger in the worst way. Look for Huselius, Nagy, or Satan.

Sam says that he'll be on a conference call with Slats in an hour or so and that, contrary to his last update, the Rangers might indeed be done for the day.

Is Voros to NYR confirmed? I hadn't heard it before I read the article.

I don't know what the Rangers arbitration situation will be, but clubs get an additional opportunity to buyout players if they have more than one player going to arbitration.

Standard Player Contract13.The Club, in addition to other rights hereunder, at its option, by written notice delivered to the Player in person, or by overnight mail to the Player's address set forth herein, may terminate this SPC on the following conditions:
(i)For Clubs who have Club or Player elected Salary Arbitration filings pursuant to Article 12, within the forty-eight (48) hour period beginning on the third day following the later of: (i) the Club's receipt of its last salary arbitration award; or (i) settlement of its last case (provided such award was received or such settlement occured after 7:00 p.m. New York time; awards or settlements that occured or were received after 7:00 p.m. New York time wil be deemed to have occurred or received the following business day for purposes of this
provision).

They won't buy him out, anyway. Why would the Rangers waste cap space buying Backman out when he can be simply sent to Hartford?

We aren't some poor team who can't afford it. That's chump change to Dolan.

Well this is obvious that big news that was supposed to come. The Rangers have re-signed Steve Valiquette.

I'm praying that we can get Orpik but that might necessitate him holding off for a couple of days because we're gonna need to make a trade to do so, probably deal away Tyutin and Backman and hopefully get a sorely needed in return.

You can't send a player to the AHL until September. Stop acting like you know everything man. Either you buy Backman out or you send him down in September.

Teams can go over the cap right now by x% anyway, so this is a moot point.
