And it's perfectly good to have quality NHLers who bring that toughness ala Jerome Iginla or even Kevin Bieksa. But players who cannot do anything except fight are a waste of a roster spot IMO.

Who cares? We WON that game. Handily. Isn't that what matters? Winning hockey games? Anybody there? This thing on?
In fact, the Canucks seem to usually win when the Wild but Bootard in the lineup. Coincidence?
Darcy Hordichuk on TEAM 1040
- Wants to be back in Canada
- Likes the state of the organization
- More tough guys in west, which is why he wants to be out west.
- He set out to have a fight 15-20 times last season.
- Seemed like he tried to fight every game. - He trained with Chuck Liddell (sp?), but didn't spar with him.
- He thinks he fits in well.
- He made quote about Canucks having no toughness in past, trying to egg them on, into a fight.
- Didn't get a good opportunity in Nashville, because Tootoo (dirty *******) had a similar role.
- Excited to be in a hockey market. Some of his best games have been in Canada - atmosphere gives extra burst of energy.
- 12 Majors / 60PIMS last season, no minor penalties.
- Not going to last if you take dumb penalties.
- Sundin should come to Vancouver, much nicer than New York.
- Would like to see Naslund back.

Exactly. You need talented players who can play tough.
Throwing one thug into a roster with 20 ******* still leaves you with 20 *******.
this is horrible, Mike Gillis will be fired by mid season, the guy has not a clue and he has zero respect from the other GM's in the league.
hordichuck is a ridiculous signing, canucks would be better off bringing a young guy up from Manitoba
canucks will not be even sniffing the playoffs with Gillis calling the shots
brutal
Riiigghht.
This is a fantastic signing (if the numbers are right) for what it's worth, and there's no way in hell Gillis is done. Hordichuk's a guy I want to see locked into that 4th line spot of ours for long-term. He gives us a respectable 4th line along with Rypien and Brown/Cowan.

You really sure you want to send our young prospects out into the NHL early to play on a 4th liner where they won't develop and will likely end up getting hurt and in sum making our team softer than it is?

Meh. I'm not a fan of heavyweights and don't really think they do much, but as a 13th forward playing 40-50 games he'll be better than Cowan, whose time here is almost surely up.
Is a decent skater and can be a quality forechecker at times.
Of course it isn't. I don't get these guys that are crying about adding another dimension to the team. You do realize you can't have 4 lines of 20 goal scorers, right? The Canucks are in a tough division and they were outmatched many, many nights last season when it comes to tough, physical play.
Wasn't Horichuck the guy who was laughing at the Canucks for being so soft last season?
what you do need is more than two guys that score 20 plus goals (sedin is one, kesler maybe two, that is hardly 4 lines of 20 goal scorers my friend
Gillis is moronic for spending his time and efforts on third and fourth line guys. The farm is full of them.

Just because the GM fills holes in the bottom 6 doesn't mean he isn't trying to find guys that can score...I don't understand why some of you can't grasp this. It's not an either/or scenario.
As for farm guys, Johnson is a massive improvement over any guy in the system and Hordichuck is tougher and more effective than both Cowan and Brown. Both are solid signings IMO and will compliment whatever scoring help Gillis brings in via trade or free agency.
People are knocking Hordichuk, but from what I remember the guy actually can log a regular NHL shift, and be a pretty effective 4th line player. If you limit his ice-time, and play him with a strong centre (now Johnson) I don't really see why he can't dress most nights. From what I recall he's a pretty big ball-of-energy player, and like mentioned takes pretty much zero dumb penalties. Plus he's a really good enforcer and should be a HUGE upgrade on Cowan. Plus he HITS, like lots..at least I think. Maybe it was just one game, but I hope he does.
As a Oilers fan, I'm afraid with his comment that he made. He said something along these lines, "if the player I want to fight won't fight me, then I'll go after there star players." Also, I think he'll become a fan favourite.
