Ryder is not as bad as he's portrayed here. He's a sniper and will pot 30 next year. Problem with Ryder is that he may still be a minus player even after scoring 30 goals.

On TSN, Gord Miller said one GM called him and said "This is insane, I'm going home" because the contracts were so inflated.

I really hope that was Bob Gainey.

what happens is a handful of teams compete for the big fish and then the rest go nuts over the crumbs left like Finger, Commodore and Ryder.

This whole day has made as much sense as the Coke Zero commercial I just watched with the two tongues and an eyeball. (Why isn't it two eyeballs and one tongue? anyway!)

We finish the day blowing up a bunch of fireworks that cost 6 figures. Fitting somehow.

yes but having a bad season NORMALLY puts the leverage into the team hands not the player.

No arguing Ryders past but to be rewarded for 4 million after coming off a very poor season it becomes more than a head scratcher.

Andrew Raycroft should have got 3 million

At this point, with these contracts i hope Montreal either stays away from Free agency or only overpays to get a superstar. Thats it.

As a GM, I would rather trade for a player then sign a UFA. At least you can dump some salary and in most cases get a player already under contract that's not for 18 Billion dollars.

Except for Hossa and Sundin, sign one of them please!!!!!

It's like Casey stengel used to say: "I don't like them guys that drive in two runs and let in three"
or words to that effect. You could look it up.

Thanks for the goals, too bad you had a terrible season right before your UFA and we don't need you anymore. Oh you signed for how much? WOW good luck in been town. $4 per season? seems pretty high, guess he wants more pressure.

At least, they'll know he will be in top shape, he spent the whole year sitting in the press box!!

He's obviously being paid for what he can do not for what he did last year......and I wouldn't be surprised to see him rebound especially alongisde Savard and Bergeron....

It is high but it's not as bad as the Commodore signing....especially since we all know Ryder has something left in him while Commodore....

But let me guess a puke like Sergei havinig a good half season is a star!?!

Well deserved money to a scorer, Boston will use him properly and their PP will be good with him on it and the league assist leader in Savard will be setting him up nightly!

Another Hab coming back to haunt the Habs...I think so!

Congrats Ryder! Thanks for your service and best of luck in Beantown!

You are forgetting his fantastic 14 goals/17 assists last season and his paper plane talents.

You know, Ryder started the season on the top line and got more chances than many of us would have given him... He was just that bad this year, and yes, Sergei passed him by. If he rebounds in Boston, he will be the same Ryder we knew, not likely to be anything more than that.

What do you guys mean by "Ryder was not used properly ?". He played on our top line until slumping all season.
