Paul Mara

What are your thoughts on him? What do you think he will be looking for on the FA market?

3.5-4M

Solid top 4 dman, that teams can use on the PP.

I havent heard one whisper out the Rangers resigning him so he's pretty much as good as gone for us.

Ya the Redden signing kinda hints towards that.

Mara played really well for us after returning from the facial injury. He made 3.0mill last year and I am guessing he would be looking for a slight raise from that number. He has a hard and heavy shot when he uses it. If you would have asked me this question this time last year I would have had a different reaction because the image of him and Karel Rachunek making a mockery of themselves in the Buffalo series was still fresh in my mind. I view Paul as a very serviceable 2nd pairing D-Man and a very good bottom pairing guy. His benfit to a team would increase if you play him on the PP with a good playmaking partner.

BS we're not resigning him, I'm pissed.

Sather really F'd up the team imo. He didn't need to dismantle it this much. Moron.

same here. would have rather gone

Staal Redden
Tytuin Girardi
Mara ?? IDK, Probably Backman, maybe a rookie, maybe even Orpik

By dismantling I mean, not resigning your first priorities first, Jagr and Avery are still in limbo, and he goes and signs Voros and Rissmiller??? wow.

The Rangers defense is alot less physical (if that is even possible) with Mara leaving. Loved having him here

I would have like to see Mara and Orpik. Who knows but I would bet he wanted to stay and I think he played pretty solid for us.

With Redden & Rozsival signed, I don't see Mara coming back. I would like him back, but I doubt it will happen. He'll probably want too much. I think you'll see either Backman, Pock, or Potter back there.

Mara wasn't that physical of a player. The Rangers' most physical dmen are Tyutin and Girardi by a long shot. Mara actually had less hits this past season than Rozsival. Redden brings more physicality than Malik (who doesn't?), so just right there the defense is that much more physical. Just need to throw in one more guy. I just hope that Backman isn't the 6th dman.

If Redden was our guy we shoulda let Rozy walk after demanding 5 and resign Mara for 3-4, unless of course Mara doesn't want back..........

I'm not a Backman hater but I'd have no problem shipping him out and signing Mara for a 3.5 Mill deal. Basically an extra 1.2 mill against the cap, but worth it for me.

Mara and his 1.1 shooting percentage is free to go. Let's face it, his offensive skills have diminished to next to nothing and his slapper was totally harmless.

I was surprised no one signed him today, I'm sure he will have a new home by the weekend, I won't be surprised if he stays local & goes to the Devils or Isles.

can someone do me a solid and and let me know where i can find one of these games that Mara was such a physical presence for us? Because I watched id say about 80 percent of the games this year and for the life of me I cant remember him striking the fear in any forward coming over the blue line.
Id rather have him then Malik, Backman or Struds but there arent many that I woldnt rather have then those three.

well pasting an Islander is always good and it being Comrie is just the icing on the cake but that being said I wont miss him. Its a shame because I really had high hopes for him when he came here and initially was a fan.

If your definition of physical is giving guys a bear hug, then yes.
How many years has it been since they changed (or decided to enforce) the rules?
I got so sick of watching him make the SAME mistake over and over.

Otherwise a useful player though.

Again, signing Rismiller and Voros has nothing to do with signing Jagr or Avery.
