I love Hossa but I think he's one of those guys that is a little scared of the fans and media, which is about 90% of the NHL.

We've seen stranger things happen before. And they need to shed salaries bad.

How about this: it could be some sort of arrangement between the Oilers and Habs if these are the two teams remaining in the Hossa derby: Bob says to Lowe:"if I get out would you trade us Horcoff?". They shake hands, the deal is set.

as bad as they need to shed salary they'll do it by any other means possible, not by trading their first line center so they can accommodate a 1st line winger

I doubt he'll sign with the Oilers, but then again I doubted Pronger would sign an extension with Edmonton.

Kind of weird to see the Oilers out-bidding the Rangers.

The Oilers said they will match any offer out there for Hossa, so we're not going to win by outbidding them in terms of pure dollar value. If we get Hossa, it's because he wants to play here and not somewhere else.

On the other hand, Hossa could simply be using the Oilers to drive up his price around the league.

Somehow I get the feeling that there is just too much information coming from Edmonton... just a hunch that the someone wants those offers to be well known. Naturally KLowe / Katz might like to become known as serious player in free agency, especially considering that there is still Hossa, Jagr and Sundin on the market, but wouldn't rule out the selfish salary reasons either.

I still think Sundin will come here...especially with our lack of doing things so far.

I don't know what Gainey is doing, I hope he made an offer to Hossa and Sundin.

I thought this team was turning 100, WOW! funny that for an original 6 team that we seem to be unable to sign these guys(Is the Province really that bad for only a stop over!) Last Time I checked Montreal is a city on it's own...., can we send some of these A-Holes some links, jeeeze come on!!! Be part off the team for our Centennial....

Gainey is a patient man.

He is waiting for all the other teams to overspend on lesser talents, and hoping that leaves the Habs as one of the few teams that can make a lucrative offer to a Sundin or Hossa. Another possibility is waiting for teams to eat up all their cap space and be forced to trade a player to not exceed the cap.

Hossa in edmonton for the next 7-9 years just for the cash is hilarious. The guy is going to commit himself to syberia for the money on a team that could barely make the playoffs. We will see how motivated he is in the -40 degree weather, staring at nothing but oil fields or snow drifts and nothing to do. It's the last place a guy with his personality should be motivation wise. The oilers are either being used as leverage or greed is blinding this guy to what awaits him.

IMO, if there's a city that's less attractive than Montreal and it's high taxes, it's Edmonton and it's retarded weather.

Why do you think they've only made trades so far this off-season?

oilers are not gonna be contenders for atleast a year or 2 and hossa said he only wants to go to a team that has a shot at winning every year so unless their offer is like 2 million more then everyone else i dont think he will sign there

Montreal Gazette is reporting Gainey might be out of the running for Hossa because of cap restraints.

Hossa at 8M$ is a massive overpayment.

I'm happy with our team. No thanks.

I'm really hoping for Sundin or Fedorov. Our wings are fine, it's that third center we're lacking.
