How Old Were You When You Started Playing?

My boys are 4 and 5 years old. They started learning how to skate a year ago. Two months ago they were "promoted" from the "Learn to Skate" program to the "Learn to Skate Hockey" program. We're hoping to get our older son on a team by December.

So how old were you when you started playing on a team?

I started skating when I was 11, and started playing house league when I was 12.

Good luck to your boys.

Didn't start playing "real" (league) ice hockey until 18, but I've been playing pickup inline and shooting pucks around my garage all day since maybe 5 or 6. I like inline hockey a bit more than ice, but probably just because I've been doing it longer and am more comfortable.

My daughter started hitting hockey balls around the house at like 6 months. She always would stand against our gate and watch me stickhandle and shoot around when she could barely walk. I got her a little stick and I could't beileve it when she picked up the stick and started hitting the balls around the living room. She's 1 year and 4 months now and she's a lot better now. Everyone who sees her can't beileve how coordinated she is and my wife's friend said she could be the next Haley Wickenheiser, but I'm gonna be getting her a pair of skates really soon. She is better than my friends son who is like 3.

I started when i was 14. When you have a good bud that started when he was 3 or 4 and plays in the NHL it makes you wish you coulda started earlier and youd be playing there too....maybe

Were you on a team at 3 years old? They won't allow us to put either one of our boys on a team until they're a minimum of 5 years old.

That's how it all started with our boys too. The older they get, the more puck marks I see on the walls.

The thing is that our hockey season starts in September/October and my birthday is in January so I turned 4 that year. They weren't going to let me play but they decided to say yes.

skating was something I can always remember doing. Hockey (goaltending) started with just street hockey( Austin texas) as a pre-schooler. Moving to the Buffalo area at age 4 was when i was on an actual team.

My youngest Son started playing (goaltender) USA Roller at 4.5 and 5 when he made his first travel ice hockey team.

Sometimes I think about where I would be if I started earlier in life... whether I would be burnt out on the sport by the time I actually started at age 22. I played soccer most of my life and continued playing in college. Since then, I have barely played the sport. Hockey is different for me now, and I am still wondering if it has to do with only playing it for the past 10 years or so and not getting burnt out by it as a kid.

I just couldn't imagine NOT playing hockey now.
