I'm on record as being against the Hossa signing but it's just cuz I don't like the length. If it was 5 years, I'd be all over it.

Anyways, if we don't get him, I hope we do grab someone else. Are we still above an offer sheet? Is there any RFA's out there making it worthwhile?

The way I see it, we have a SOLID looking squad this year. Hossa would help that, but we'd have to cut some people loose to make 'er under the cap. I'd prefer to see us sign a sniper or trade for one later in the summer.

Yep, 2 year deal, 15m (7.5m per year) is supposedly the offer to Jagr from Lowe--and apparently it's the best offer by a fair margin that he's received ('heard the Rangers have offered a one year 6m; but that might change today). But it's very likely dependant on how the Hossa situation goes.

According to Ek, the meeting went really well - he also heard that "the Hossa Revolution" will be determined by 1:00 ET.

Meeting Goes Well In Edmonton (E4)
"Various sources (2 in Canada, 1 in America, and one actually in Europe) are telling me that the meeting with the Oilers and Hossa's Agent Ritch Winter went very well. Rumoured deal in the 8-9 years 70-80 million range. I have also received more confirmation that the Oilers will look to Jagr if Hossa decides to go elsewhere. The other teams in on Hossa I am told are Pitt, Montreal, and Minnesota."
- Eklund

FWIW

Edit - sorry if this was posted already.

That has been there since last night, right after Stauffer came on the air (on 1260) after the meeting at about 11:00 PM. Stauffer mentioned the term much lower though, 60 mil over 7 years. They said though it would probably take closer to 65 mil over 7 years. Things can change pretty quick though.

Man... last night I was all for this, but this morning I am getting cold feet. That is just too much money for too long. If they have something lined up with Jagr, I think I'd rather see them take that for a few years and for a lot cheaper.

Well, given Eklund's track record, 40% would have to be an E482.

Would it be accurate to say Eklund is more reliable with signings than trades?

And I think Bryan Adams is a better singer than Celine Dion.

I hope he's right just so he signs somewhere and the speculation ends. I could see him going to Montreal.

I see it like this

MTL- 1st priority is Sundin
EDM- 1st priority is Hossa
PITT- 1st priority is resigning Malkin

Im pretty sure its going to come down to Montreal or Edmonton

Well at least REA can take a chill pill.

I usually love your posts man but you made yourself look just silly in this thread with your insults and frothing at the mouth posts.
