Hossa signs with Detroit What does this mean to Jagr?

Sources tell TSN that free agent Marian Hossa has signed a one-year, $7.4 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/story/?id=2422...=topStory_main

I cant believe this. He left at least 60 million on the table.

Think this might bode well for the Jagr negotiations at least.

No, he obviously wants to win the cup, and is taking a short contract at a discount to do it. He can always cash in even more next year.

Sather should try to use this to leverage Jagr

He wants a cup, but does he know that there is RARELY reoccuring champions. They received him at a good discount for a year. Good job by Detroit. Not a long term contract and they can MAYBE squeeze out one more cup.

this has no affect on Jagr. Right now Jagr is arguably better than him. this does nothing at all.

True, but he turned down a 7 year 50 million dollar offer from the Pens, a team thats arguably better aligned for the future than Detroit. This is really peculiar. Why count on banking next year when it couldve been done this year....you never know with injuries and things of that nature.

One of those other teams such as Edmonton is going to give Jagr a ton now...

Fortunately, Jagr likes New York and the Rangers.

He has a good coach here that he likes in Renney. He likes the city and wouldn't want to play in Edmonton I don't think. He won't like being number 3 on a team like Pitt because Crosby and Malkin will both make more.

Rangers make a lot of sense right now for Jagr. Bring back Jagr, put Satan on his left wing with Dubinsky and go with that. Drury and Gomez will do enough to make their lines reasonable.

I think this helps the Rangers get Jagr signed to a one year contract. Sather should be able to make the case to Jagr that if Hossa signs for 1 year $7.5M than Jagr is worth 1 year at $6.5M

I can see Jagr choosing to go back to Pittsburgh (something i predicted might happen a month ago) because they have a better chance of winning and he could be more successul playing with Crosby/Malkin/Staal...

Although if Jagr stays true to his word and wants to be "The Man" than he would resign with the Rangers...it's easy to make the case that he would be the #1 option on this team...All Sather would have to do is hand him a list of the depth chart....

I gotta imagine the NHLPA is pretty pissed about the contract that Hossa signed...

In my eyes, this should definitely have an affect on Jagr. If I'm Sather, I look at the Red Wings, throw up my white flag and scurry away. Who's going to beat that team this year? Signing Jagr is unimportant for the Rangers now because there's no chance we're winning anything.

My guess: Jagr comes in for a base of $6.5MM with goal and points escalators that push it to $8MM.

****. Now dumb Sather is going to up the ante for Jagr for one year, so he can take a crack at Hossa next season.

What is the point of Jagr coming back? So he can vanish for the season and then try to take over the playoffs?... SO he can moan about his line mates?.. SO the PP can be run through him again and be 25th in the league again... We are trying to move forward as a team people.

i doubt he goes back to pittsburgh for several reasons.

1--He is still very familiar with teamates on the Rangers, he has never played with anyone on the pens

2--Pens are only offering 5 mil per

3--Slats will now go hard for JJ since Hossa is off the board.

This is something that has been nagging at me the past couple of days too....

I half expected to open up TSN today and see Jagr's picture with a headline that said "You Can Go Home Again" or something stupid like that.

A bit surprised but it looks like he wants his name on the cup. D-Z-H line...thankfully we don't see that.

Detroit just won the cup, beating the team Hossa was on. They pretty much have the same team, and now Hossa makes them that much better. They're the clear front runners for the cup again, no matter what else happens.

The biggest risk he's running is getting injured beyond recovery this year

I'm glad you put 'arguably' in that sentence as I'm sure many would argue against you.
