Wow, that's brutal on Columbus' part, not that great on the Rangers front either with Zherdev becoming a RFA after next season but still.

I think right or wrong we signed our cheaper defenseman today but I wouldn't mind another option as well

although..

With a top 4 consisting of Redden, Rozisval, Girardi, and Staal we have guys that can eat major minutes so you can have guys like Fahey and Potter rounding out the defense..

The Rangers gain about 2.6 mil in cap space, granted Fritsche is still RFA.

I don't know much about Fahey, but if he couldn't crack Atlanta's blueline, I'm not sure why we're penciling him in with the Rangers

I will miss Tyutin...but damn what a deal...I like Zherdev a lot as well...he has sick, sick hands and overall a really great set of offensive tools. He is fast too. People say he has character issues but I believe that Tom Renney and co. will fix that.

For what it's worth Eklund has this deal including more players...i know it means nothing but he's been pretty on the ball the past few days..he also has legit writers on his site that i'm sure feed him the "best" of his rumors..

I will miss Toots a lot. One of my favorite players. It's a good trade. Fills the need for Top 6 talent. It seems as if Fritsche's been hurt more than Moises Alou though. http://tsn.ca/nhl/teams/players/bio/...l-blue_jackets
Guess all that scouting of the Blue Jackets during the season payed off.

If anything, it puts us right back in. We just cleared $2 worth of cap space.

Mad after losing out on Hossa or something? NOT that great on the Rangers front? You being sarcastic?

I'll miss Toots, too, he has a wicked hip check.

I like that our guys are going to a different conference, too.

Cbus fan here:

Fritsche can look like a 2nd liner at times, but is mostly inconsistent. Came up as a center, but has mostly played wing. Most likely will settle into a bottom six role.

Be careful what you say about him. There are two or three Fritsche-truthers who'll come out of the woodwork if you criticize him. They'll pounce on you and remind you how good Fritsche was in juniors and tell you the coach is misusing him.
Fair warning.

Zherdev has a lot of ability and flash. Despite his reputation, he's had more good time in Columbus than bad. Really only one bad season (but it was real bad) and the nasty contract fight and holdout. Wish you guys the best with him - lot of talent, but not always engaged in the game. When he is, he's great.

That's the kind of trade you make. For a player with this kind of skill who is only 23 years old. I don't care what the naysayers say. We won this trade. I hate to give up Tyutin but we even gained some capspace from this trade!

Absolutely stoked. Awaited patiently for that big move, and this one is it.

Zherdev is all skill, what a player, been loving him for a while now, I hope he flourishes here big time....

Can't get any better with this trade, Tyutin's good and all but that contract was a little hard to swallow at this particular time with his declining play as of late, and Backman... well, that's just great to get rid of his cap.

Ok I love Niko but let's not get carried away here. Tyutin's contract was perfect for his services. A lot better than the overpayment and cap mismanagement we made by resigning Rosy for 5 m a year yesterday.

Man I hope we get Orpik now! Please! We lost some sandpaper we had from Fedor and now need some serious toughness back there or were gonna get pushed around.

Eklund just confirmed this deal is done 2 for 2.

Eklund is just a bitter Flyers fan. Although, I wouldn't be surprised if a forward is going the other way, too.

Or maybe this is part of a multi-team deal?
