I apologize to Slats

Holy smokes!

I've hated Slats going back to the mid-90s. Called him all sorts of names.

But if someone posted Zherdev and the young Fritsche for Tuts (Backman is a salary dump we couldn't afford), I'd laugh at that person.

I like Sather's strategy during the draft, I like his building from inside out (G, then D, and only then F) and I am starting to get what he's doing up front too with all those players.

Sather is trying to recreate the 1990s Debbies. They had a stud in the net, excellent defense (Stevens, Nieds, Daneyko) and "interchangeable parts" (Colon Cancer's phrase) up front.

Still wish Avery was here in New York, but I'm feeling much better about Slats.

I must say, he's generally done a good job trading.

I don't think Sather deserves an apology to be honest...He made a GREAT trade but we still have holes that need to be filled.

Btw, i've found that most trades made would be laughed off the boards but maybe that's just me...

When Sather makes a big trade, he makes a BIG steal.

time to lock up Jags

maybe add Huselius too.

I like our top 4 d a lot...maybe add a veteran at around 2-2.5 (mara??) and let a kid make the team out of camp.

Sure, we have some holes to be filled but this addressed the biggest need yet.. and that is a winger for Gomer.

Sure, there's still the Jagr possibility, but I'm still against that fairly because I think if you signed Gomer and Dru you should be letting them take over the team now, it's time to move on.....

We have two spots open on D now and could use one more top-six winger...

Awesome, awesome job by Sather. We get a top 6 forward that we desperately needed while dealing from our strength on defense.

Sign Jagr, sign Orpik, and call it a day.

I didn't understand why so many people were going nuts. Free Agency is more than one day. Just because every hole wasn't filled immediately didn't mean it wasn't going to get done.

We still need another winger (and according to Andy Strickland, we're pursuing Demitra). But even if it's not acquired today, you have to realize we'll be okay.

Now just sign Jagr to draw the other teams best defense and let Gomez and Zherdev tear it up!

Sather did a bang up job letting Avery go. He was a Fan Favorite and a great pest. But that can be replaced for less. and that will be put towards other wholes that we need to fill. The Zherdev Deal helps the Offense that we needed with Shanny and Jags out. I really like the Voros signing and Rangers fans will def enjoy him. The Redden signing not only helped our Defense, but also our offense in allowing Sather to part with Toots to get a Young and cheaper Zherdev instead of breakin the bank more with a UFA.

With this trade plus assuming several players would end up at AHL (Pock, Mike Sauer, Hollweg of the wrold) when season begins, NYR has $10.7 million left in cap space. We have no one playing as 3rd pair of D. Do we have Jagr? Or Slat is going after Cheechoo??
