Jason Smith

Think he's a possibility for our 3rd pairing? He plays gritty and wouldn't cost too much. Maybe 2 mil

You might want to take a look at the sticky salary cap thread. We actually freed up about 2.6 mil with the Toots/Zherdev deal, but part of that will likely go to signing Fritsche, who's an RFA.

And we can go over, so long as we get under by the season's start.

Don't forget, players like Pock, Hollweg, Mike Sauer, Sanguinetti might not be at NHL level. Putting them at AHL would relieve NYR another 2-3 million cap room. Standing at $10 ~ $11 million.

If he'd sign for 1.5-1.75 for a year I would love to sign him after losing out on my boy Orpik. Whoever else will be on the third pairing is going to be a rookie or an inexperienced player (or garbage named Strudwick) so it'll be good to have a fairly dependable mentor in place.

by my calculations, there's about $9.17 million for 4 spots (1 forward and 3 defensemen)

I'm assuming your going to want an impact forward (Jagr, Sundin, Demitra), and that should cost at least $6 million. if you get two defensemen for the minimum, then there's barely two million left.

If they had around 9 yesterday then they saved 2 today...........BUT they have to sign Jagr for about 6 atleast, likely 7,lets be honest,haha..........then Dawes and Sjostrom are going to get some coinage around 2.5

I think they have room for a small pick up around a million which I am fine with ............still think something simple like a Montador is fine............then go with Potter ,Pock, Sanguinetti for the competition and it make sense to give Hutchinson a contract this yr..........it also makes the Cullen trade ok

Well we do need another dman man....and I was thinking Smith also. He'd be a nice fit for the 3rd pair and would provide leadership. 1 year at 1.75M (wishful thinking of course).

Good luck getting Jason Smith for less than 3.5 million. 4-5 is what he'll get.
