Major Overhaul?

Ok, by the end of this summer, do you consider this a major overhaul by Slats and his gang? What do you think? Oops, had core twice. Paging department of redundancy, any way to edit a poll?

Should probably wait on this till Jagr's situation plays out.

If it is a major overhaul it's not by choice. We're doing what we have to do to stay competitive.

The one trade we've made isn't really a huge change, but it's significant none-the-less.

I'm curious to see where Slats is going with all of this. Seems like he's looking for a very fast lineup with size and grit. However, I don't really want him to dip into our prospect pool too much unless its for something really special.

Agreed, I think this will play out soon in a couple of days. Slats better act fast because the other major free agents have already been signed or are in the process.

losing straka, shanahan, avery, and possibly Jagr is indeed a major overhaul...i'm still hoping for a Jagr signing and perhaps another major trade, but if it doesn't happen i'll be dissapointed but at the same time happy to know that this team is moving forward in a another direction that could be good for the future...

If Jagr returns, it's more of a retool. If not, it's more of a "competitive rebuild".

It's much needed, IMO.

The Rangers lack top-end players, both at scoring foward and defense.

And those they did have are too old. It was well past time for Straka and Shanahan to hit the trail, and it doesn't make sense to commit long term to Jagr at this point either -- or even short term, if it costs you a different young player that you could have committed to long term (like a Vermette or something).

I would have liked Avery back but he's just more of what we have a ton of. Solid two way fowards who can play on the 2nd or 3rd line.

Bottom line is the Rangers should clear out cap space, focus on developing Anisimov and Cherepanov into Top-2 line players, and watch for an opening to land one big name FA scoring winger somewhere. Probably too late this year with Hossa gone, but I'd have an eye on a guy like Heatley or Kovalchuk some time. Even if you have to ditch a player like Drury to get him.

Zherdev is a potentially excellent 1 or 2 line player. So he's kinda just what the doctor ordered.

Provided Jagr isn't coming back (and I really hope he isn't), this is a major overhaul. The team, no matter who the bring back, is going to have a completely different look pretty much everywhere except the penalty kill. I personally think that even as the roster stands at this moment, the powerplay is better than it was last year.

Gomez can take it over and feed Redden and Roszival (who will actually shoot without Jagr there) at the points. Zherdev will be a threat from the boards and the high slot and Drury will muck it up in front of the net. That unit is more dynamic than anything the Rangers iced this past season.

We'll see what happens the rest of the week here.

Don't like the Redden signing, yet.

i believe it is a major overhaul that isnt quite donw yet, however, i love the moves and i feel like the rangers are going in the right direction......will it change the chemistry?....yes, but they will now have more players playing their actual positions than last year and i think it is only for the better

Pretty obvious if you ask me, but we wont know if its a good or bad thing until they are deep into the season.

Hey it took last years club 40 or so games to get it going.

You never know. It could take 20, 70, or even 5.

Thats the beauty of being a Rangers fan. You never know whatcha gona git...

Yes, I consider it a major overhaul. It's like the entire team has turned over in 2 years. I knew it was coming (although was hoping one year from now) but I'll miss #68. And Avery was really close to being the heart of this team despite his short tenure. I am however, looking forward to Zherdev pulling me out of my seat on a regular basis. Times they are a changing.
