Gainey's list probably looked like this:

1A. Sundin
1B. Hossa
2. Backup Goalie for Hamilton
3. Who the hell cares about the rest.

Mid-level UFAs are of no consequence at this point, and considering the fact that this year's UFA crop was pretty weak in terms of top flight talent, it's completely understandable that no major signings are made.

Especially given the Tanguay acquisition at draft day, the need for forwards is considerably diminished. Next year there are a ton RFAs and UFAs to sign so tying up valuable cap-space in mid-level veterans is just not the direction we should be going.

That's the nice about having the kind of depth we have. We can take a chance on a guy like Havlat. If he gets injured, we have others to take his ice time. If he doesn't... Cha-ching!

Looking at our lineup we are lacking right-handed forwards... the only ones right now are Lapierre and Kostopoulos, we saw last year that on 5 on 3's Carbonneau liked to use a right handed shot on the left side and I absolutely hope that Lapierre isn't used there.

I know it may sound stupid but does anyone think Gainey might be aiming more towards finding a right handed shooting center/foward?

We need an insurance policy on D. Schneider could be a good option.

For the rest, Sundin or nothing!

please WTK don't exagerate, beetween him and Bouillon i think Streit would get that spot 7 days a week, he did have 62 points last year, and forward or defensmen, 60 points is rather impressive

If Sundin doesn't come here, i'd like Gainey to sign Peca.

He would give us a great shutdown 3rd line and be that righthanded shot...

Tanguay-Saku-Andrei (Time for Andrei to shine!)
Sergei-Pleks-Kovy (Sergei would be a better passer for the 2 shooters)
Higgins-Chipchura-Peca (Replace Chips with Lappy if he can't keep up and have Peca take the faceoffs)
Lats-Lapy-Begin/Kosto

Schneider comes with a $5.75 million cap hit. Way too much if you still want Sundin. I'm hoping Bob will jump on the Teppo Numinnen option for around $1.5 million.

Plekanec won't be an UFA next year, but he'll look at that figure... we might be able to sign him around 4-4,5mil...

Not a chance...further more he's a RFA next year and not a UFA. He will not go from 1.6 mil to 5 mil
If someone offers him that kind of money gimme the 5 first rounders as comp.

I prefer Tanguay than Huselius by a mile...

Everyone seems to forget that Tanguay is a very good upgrade, a legit first line winger...

It's really going to depend on A. Kostitsyn's numbers this as well as Plekanec's

If A. Kost and PLeks put up similar numbers no way Plekanec will get mad money. I see something more like 3.75 to 4.25 million

Honestly I think some people want us to sign someone for the sake of signing someone and not for the betterment of this team.

Take 2 aspirin before bedtime. Maybe you'll be better in the morning.

oh please, we really don't need a streaky forward like Huselius. There is two guys I would add, Sundin and Demitra. Otherwise I don't see who could be useful.
