Rangers expected to make more noise; Mara doesn't seem likely.

That was Commodore...at least the "dor" part was right

Montador might actually be a decent addition, and probably wouldn't come very expensive at all.

I think Montador would be a good addition or maybe jason smith but what about going after Steve Bernier. Hes a big winger who will go to the net and should be cheaper than vermette by either offer sheet or trade.

bernier, vermette, smith, montadore......although i think a player like chelios might bre a valid stop-gap if he still wants to play

If Buffalo is looking to move Bernier I'm all for it. He would round out a really nice young core of forwards under 25.

And he'll be expecting to be paid like one, very soon. We can't afford to tie up that much money in Rosy, Redden and J-Bo and still expect to be able to resign Staal when he becomes an RFA. It isn't happening.

This is from ESPN:

Defensive help
Sabres D Dimitri Kalinin is on the Rangers' "radar screen," according to the New York Post.
The Buffalo News previously reported the Sabres are unlikely to re-sign the unrestricted free agent.

not a bad thing... if he can stay healthy he could be a steal. Perfect candidate for a 1 or two year deal as he has alot to prove to get the big bucks.

That's ESPN, where's the actual source? I wouldn't believe anything ESPN themselves say.

kalinin is not who the rangers need............he is either good, or very very bad......he was almost sat in buffalo after lydman, tallinder and paetsch were all hurt and after campbell was traded!!!.........not a good signing

ESPN said the Post was the source. It's right in the first line.

he would be dirt cheap too. he would be a very good #6 defensman, but we already have a chelios in Strudwick. Right now neither player is good but they have heart and want to win.

I didn't hear one single rumor about Zherdev, Fritsche, Rissmiller or Voros being on the Rangers radar. So I'd take any speculation with as much salt as you can find.

Kalinin is a good player, he can be physical, but I think his physical presence is going to fall off rapidly considering he's become so injury-prone.

Maybe, but he'll only be 28 this coming season. Maybe he can have 1 or 2 really good years and then we trade him

Edit: Plus, being Russian, he gives Zherdev someone to talk to

I watch almost every Sabres game each year. Kalinin is terrible. The Garden crowd will eat him alive.

Glen saying the door is still open for Mara (and Shanny), per Sam.

Two other quick notes:The Rangers have an offer on the table for defenseman Paul Mara.Sather also said Brendan Shanahan returning for a third year in New York is still a possibility.
