IS Bertuzzi any good for this 2009 team for say `1 yr @ 2-2.3 mill.???

decent 15-25 goal ability w/ prodigious size on the wing...should be ok no?

of course he could be another scapegoat if things go south quickly

Bertuzzi is nothing more than a 3rd liner with a big (and tarnished) name at this point.

I concur. We have no need for him.

Plus, I don't like him.

I would have taken a shot @ Bert if Jagr & Sundin signed, (Although they still might, i'm not holding my breath) he would have been the perfect fit to compliment a monster line.

Adressing the toughness.....

I think at this point Bertuzzi is a must, don't care what you think of the guys personality, attitude and what not. I love being the team that's a pain in the ass to play against.

Bertuzzi and Smith, go get em. How sick would he look with Dubinsky? Give bert 3.5 and give smith 2.5ish and go to war with this group.

Prucha-Dubinsky-Bertuzzi
Korpikoski-Drury-Callahan
Fritsche-Betts-Sjostrom

Rozsival-Girardi
Smith-Saugenetti

if this was the old bertuzzi i would say yes...however he isnt....so i would pass....plus the rangers have byers, voros and orr.....all of whome could potentially be in the lineup if needed.....plus jessiman if needed.....i understand these guys arent in the top 6 but they are solid tough guys who will stick up for their team.......

on the note of smith....i have been saying to grab him for a while as he is a good leader and a warrior.....

Crazy money for Bertuzzi, and while he addresses a need for a physical presence in top the six, he also brings in part of the 'Avery' factor, and teammates won't like him. It creates a whirlwind in the locker room and won't bode well with the team, so he's an absolute last resort.

I do agree with Smith, though, at 1,5-2.

Let's not forget he's only 33..not like he's over 35-36 years of age. I think the only issue is health, and this off-season gives him the chance to rest up. I believe at this stage of the game with our need of some toughness and scoring in terms of our top 6 wing, Bertuzzi brings that. I think Dubinsky and Bert will compliment eachother.

Sather should ask Scott Gomez if Bertuzzi is ok with him...

Honestly if the Rangers don't bring back Jagr than perhaps a run at Bertuzzi and Nasland makes some sense.....

If that was the case i'd go..

Korpikoski Gomez Zherdev
Dawes Drury Callahan
Nasland Dubinsky Bertuzzi
Voros Betts Fritsche

He's got ALOT of miles on that 33 yr old tag though, not like he's been Petr Nedved out on the ice his whole career.

I question his toughness and how much of it is useful at this point.

Korpedo played one NHL game, i think if you switch Nazzy and Korpedo, i think it would be good.

Wow I like the looks of that a lot. Plus we stay a good 3-4 million under the cap... if we want to add something at the deadline.

I agree the whole Bertuzzi rep turns me off to the idea... but a top 6 powerfoward is exactally what we need. He may be only a fraction of his old self, but he could be a cheap one year bandaid until Chery and AA are ready to go next year.

Dream lineup would be if we could some how get Vermette for that spot. And a really big mean dman, maybe convince Danny Markov to come back to the NHL.

I have to imagine if you reunited Bert and Naslund on a line with Gomez, you'd see a lot of sparks flying. Gomez is certainly a step up from Brendan Morrison in terms of play-making abilities. However, that line will probably only last you two seasons.

That being said, I can probably speculate with some certainty that Slats has looked into it.

Naslund - Gomez - Bertuzzi
Zherdev - Drury - Fritsche
Korpikoski - Dubi - Callahan
Voros/Orr - Betts - Rissmiller/Sjo

Thats a lot of potential there. Kinda torn on this.

I think the key is to spread the wealth through 3 lines though. I really want Gomez with Zherdev. Dubi has shown he can keep up with top talent and he would be a nice fit with Nas and Bert. Drury plays great with fast players, I think him and Korpedo will mesh well together.
