Yeah -- I guess what i'm saying is.... if Tampa asks him to waive his NTC... then, well, that's just a request

If he's said no to waiving it... well... kinda shoots down the request doesn't it?

Guys, for those who are saying that Koules in co wanted to sign boyle to that deal, its' incorrect.

They wanted to move both Boyle and Richards. Feaster fought to keep Boyle, signed him and gave him an NTC (which Koules couldn't shoot down, any more involved and Bettman would've put him in sanction hell).

The compromise was Feaster gets Boyle, and Richards moves. I don't have a link, but if anyone doubts me, I'll try and dig it up. This was told to me by a beat writer that I have had occasional contact with.

I mean if Boyle was re-asked about it and is considering it... this puts the Ottawa/Columbus/Tampa trade back on.

TBay is becoming more and more peculiar. Unless this is a 2 for 1 deal in D-men,this makes no sense. What good is all that talent up front if you can't get the puck out of your end?

I would think Boyle won't pull a Redden and willingly stay somewhere he isn't wanted. Then again I don't know much about the Lightning.

Is the feeling around Tampa that Boyle will waive the NTC?

That's strangely related to why I think a team could get anyone to waive their NTC. Make it hell for them. You burn bridges in doing so, but if you really want someone gone, that may be the price you have to pay.

IMO, he want to stay in Tampa with his friends Lecavalier and St-Louis.

No. The new owners wanted to deal both at the deadline, Feaster/Torts made a strong argument to keep Boyle. That's why he was signed to an extension.

Boyle was quoted this morning as saying he doesn't want to leave the Lightning and has no intention on waving his NTC.

the first article suggests that waiving his contract as a last resort is an option, theres no way in hell i'd let him go for nothing

I have a feeling that's why some of these stories make it out into the media and others we'll probably never hear of. Try to drag the player's name through the mud a bit. Obviously since there's a quote from Boyle himself saying the team asked him to waive his NTC, it doesn't apply here...but I'm thinking about maybe the Leafs with McCabe at the deadline last year for example. Who knows.

Whats up with owners meddling with the GMs job and wanting Boyle traded? Is there any reason/link Boyle had some kind of past conflict/disagreement between the owners?

It's called a 6 mill salary and them needing to shed salary after all their signings.

Most likely.

Sigh. Too bad. Boyle's contract is not too bad compared to what defensemen got the past few days. If the owners try to burn bridges... it wll be a mistake IMO.

God, let's not start this again.

Yeah, we have a pretty decent defense, no one just seems willing to actually look at them.

Maybe Boyle was the guy DL was talking about as the bridge d-man he was trying to acquire.

The owners said in the local papers that they were after a number of mid-level free agent defensemen, but balked when the prices were driven up so high.

I'd assume Finger's in that group, along with Smith (not ruled out yet), and other mid level D-men (see top 4).

There's an answer for all you folks saying why did Tampa not go after D?

They did... they just felt it was an overpayment for the ones they went after. Hell Mike Frickin Commodore got a big contract relative to his worth, so it makes sense.

I read on Sportsnet that Boyle just bought a piece of land in the Tampa area to build a new house. I think it's unlikely he has the mindset to accept a trade.
