redden vs Streit

sorry we took the worse of all the available deals. McCabe has more to offer than Redden! At least McCabe can score some PP goals. Redden is average in all departmetns other than payroll!

Paying for name not for skill. Streit would have been far the better option

C'on man..please tell me your JOKING!

Streit was MADE by the best PP in the league (Habs)...take a nice look at Souray....30 goals with the habs....went to the Oilers..and he scored like 8 goals haha....Steit wont score more then 35 points with the Isles..

Again....hahahahha...if you think Steit>>Redden....hahah..oh and BTW...Streit scored most of his points playing FORWARD for the Habs..not defense.

Seriously man...your joking right..early april fools?...or Drunk post..?? (if drunk post then you save some face )

Agree with Fly. I don't even know if Streit will last as a dman. Maybe just a pp specialist and play forward on the 3rd or 4th line.

I actually think we paid for the player this time.

Redden isn't some saluted older UFA. He is just entering his prime, he want revenge after his last season -- but he is still very experienced and is just a very solid D. NY is a big scene for him, but there will be much less pressure here then in Ottawa.

This isnt the greatest comparison in the world. Streit is a PP specialist, Redden can play 2nd PP unit.

Wade's true strength is at EV.

hahah can't disagree more with this post. Streit is a forward masquerading as a d-man. his point total is totally inflated by the team and PP he played on. with the Isles lack of scoring Streits numbers will greatly decrease. Redden of course as everyone knows had an off year, but if you go by what he has done over the course of his career he is a very solid all around complete d-man. imo he is still in his prime at 31, the change of scenery will hopefully help him bounce back. that ottawa team last season was a mess. the only negative about redden is of course the huge contract we gave him. but i'll take him any freaking day with the contract he got than Streit...

Streit is a forward, you can't even begin to compare the two..

They might be comparable in the offensive zone. However, for the extra $2.5 mill we don't have to play shorthanded in our own zone so I think thats money well spent...

Personally I would have preferred McCabe as he's less money and we really need a scorer.

Well, didn't Souray break himself shortly after joining the Oilers?

Anyways, Redden has far more to offer than Streit and is a much better player, so I'm not going to cry about paying $2 mill more for him

I wanted Streit, but only if we couldnt get a better defensman. One being Redden.

Lets not kid ourselves here. Streit looks liek asexy signing right now, but he doesnt have the credentials, the pedigree or the moxy Redden has. Sure Redden has went south the last year and a half, maybe 2, but Streit isnt a pure defensman, hes a quasi defensman/pp specialist.

Montreal has 2 lethal PP units.

I doubt he'll get anywhere near his PP production with the Islanders. He WILL help them, and he WOULD have helped the Rangers, and for less - but hes no Wade Redden.

The Rangers need was for a #1 DEFENSEMAN, a leader of the D, someone to bring along Staal and still have tremendous vision, outlet passing, and PP presence.

REDDEN is that man.

STREIT is not.

typical idiot ranger fan over here. how many games did souray play last year? thats what i thought he was injured for more then half the season its not like he played 82 games and just sucked like your trying to make it out to be.

and as for streit vs. redden. streit will helped the islanders PP out next year which pretty much failed to score a goal after losing marc andre bergeron (not that i expect you to know anything about the rest of the NHL.. since you seem to be typical were gonna win the cup every year, every signing we get is jesus, rangers fan) but the guys got a descent amount of potential and cant be bad for the isles who were terrible last year and are in a rebuilding mode. If streit gets 40 - 50 points he'll be worth it.

Streit didn't have the most of his point in PP. It's untrue.

And even if Streit made the most of his point in powerplay. What is the matter? A point is a point. He's very useful in PP and he'll play like a defenseman in NYI. His first pass ans his offensive play are much better than Redden's.

Streit should play with a very good defensive player (a guy like O'Donnell) and it will be a marvellous defensive line.

This question about Streit and Redden isn't so stupid. Especially after the poor Redden's season.

Typical IDIOT Islander fan over here. Clearly doesn't realize that Souray had 3 goals in 26 games. That means he was on pace for under 10 goals. Nearly 1/3rd of his totals on MTL.

that is the breakdown of how souray's season went. you can talk all you want aboutt how hes on pace for this n that. THE GUY WASNT HEALTHY ALL YEAR. OBVIOUSLY HE WAS HAVING SHOULDER ISSUES. A guy with 11 years of NHL experience, and someone who's been in nearly 100 playoff games, compared to a guy who's played two and a half season worth of games and is only 1 year younger than Redden.

Salaries aside, there is no comparison. If we signed Streit we would still have to go out and get a legitimate 1/2 defenseman, which makes no sense.

sorry to disagree but Redden is FAR from being a premier D'man in this league.
Riding on a name and a season he had a few years ago.
Last two seasons he was just about average!
So certainly a upgrade on Rosival he is not.
