Hypothetical Draft Day question...

Okay, this may be a dumb question, so I apologize in advance if it is.

Let's say that a couple of days before the draft, the bonafide number 1 pick suffers some sort of freak accident that leaves him in a medically opinioned 65/35 to 50/50 chance that he'll recover to play hockey again.

Is the player deemed ineligible for the draft? Or does the player voluntarily withdraw?

As a GM, would you still select him if you have the 1st overall? If other GM's pass him by, do you select him with the 5th, 10th, or 26th overall pick with the hope that he recovers? Am I asking WAY to many questions?

You all get my point, what do you think would happen?

He would still be in the draft, and it would be up to the GMs to decide whether to take a chance on him or not.

There are tons of examples of players that have major injuries in their draft years...(One that comes to mind is Daniel Fernholm) and that really affects their draft positions.

I think Adrian Foster is another example of a guy whose injuries made him a draft day wild card-Jersey rolled the dice with him, and are still waiting to see if it pays off.

If I were the Caps, I'd take it because they need to take that chance. And they've got tons of high picks this draft. So, I'd take a chance. Look at Heatley. Not even a year and he's returning back to his normal form.
