Okay, this may be a dumb question, so I apologize in advance if it is.
Let's say that a couple of days before the draft, the bonafide number 1 pick suffers some sort of freak accident that leaves him in a medically opinioned 65/35 to 50/50 chance that he'll recover to play hockey again.
Is the player deemed ineligible for the draft? Or does the player voluntarily withdraw?
As a GM, would you still select him if you have the 1st overall? If other GM's pass him by, do you select him with the 5th, 10th, or 26th overall pick with the hope that he recovers? Am I asking WAY to many questions?
You all get my point, what do you think would happen?
If I were the Caps, I'd take it because they need to take that chance. And they've got tons of high picks this draft. So, I'd take a chance. Look at Heatley. Not even a year and he's returning back to his normal form.
