They're already near it, unless they're still planning to sign R2. I have no idea where they would put him if they did though.

We're forgetting that Halpern will be on the IR so we're dealing already with 2 million that's off the books until Jan-Feb so his hit, when he returns, will be far less.

Dude if we were to get Pickles here I'd be the first guy in line for his jersey. Thats the kind of D-Man I want here as he is solid yet not spectacular. Does his job and can move the puck. PLEASE BE PICKLES!

It wont be though Boyle will probably make us have to watch him 82 more times this year yeech

Come on DW, get this deal done. Boyle for Carle + Wishart ... make it happen. This would really make my day better than it is, and it's beginning to look good.

I don't think Carle will get traded.

If he returns to his rookie season form or better, his contract will be a steal for the next 4 years at the current crazy UFA market for blueliners.

what? that's terrible from a Sharks perspective. Carle and Wishart both have very bright futures, losing both of them would be terrible. it would probably take one of Ehrhoff, Carle, Joslin, and Wishart to get Boyle, but i'd be pissed if DW traded more than one of those four.

Yeah, I meant Ehrhoff and Wishart... I think it would be worth it as long as we don't trade our 2009 picks, and use them to get more young talent.

Blake to SJ = No Boyle to SJ IMO. The other teams rumored seem to be the Sens and Philly.

I'm angry right now. At first they sign a ridiculous number of forwards, then they are like 'Hey, let's cut some salary' and they are trying to trade a defensemen, even if they are not stacked at this position.

This article says that a team source is saying that signing Blake won't deter them from going after Boyle

I don't get this, they are weak in defense and have a ******** of forwards. Something tells me that trading a defenceman is nt the way to alleviate that problem

I'd want a mulligan on that contract too... but IMO it's pretty unprofessional to commit to a guy and then want to trade just months later, before he's even played 1 game on the contract.

If I'm Boyle I say no.
How does the other GM feel? He's paying for an asset that should have been available to him for free.

This stinks from all sorts of directions.

I could see a Boyle for Carle trade as it is already known that Koules knows the Carle family. He already wasted his 7th pick to allow David Carle to get drafted.

They wanted to move both Boyle and Richards. Feaster fought to keep Boyle, signed him and gave him an NTC (which Koules couldn't shoot down, any more involved and Bettman would've put him in sanction hell).

The compromise was Feaster gets Boyle, and Richards moves. I don't have a link, but if anyone doubts me, I'll try and dig it up. This was told to me by a beat writer that I have had occasional contact with.
"Sanction hell" for what, exactly? PS&E gave them permission to run the team, don't even try to pretend that OK & Len have nothing to do with that contract. They signed off on it!

I know most of the Tampa fans here hate Boyle, but don't try to excuse the new owners for the slimy way they're going about this. It's the same crap they did to Brad with their strategic "leaks" to the media to ratchet up the pressure, that sucked and this also sucks. What they're doing to a vet who previously signed under market contracts to help the team out & who played way more than any player should have to is a flat out disgrace.

This doesn't look very good for Tampa. Players won't like this being done to Boyle. While I won't say anything drastic like no one will ever want to sign with Tampa as a FA after this, it certainly will potentially scare off some FAs.

Personally, I won't be surprised if Boyle accepts a trade. I'd imagine he feels fairly insulted. It's not even like it's some over-the-hill player making two or three times as much as he should. Boyle is a very good defenseman (better than people make him out to be here), making a little more than he should, but he's still in his prime.

Someone said the Flyers were interested, but I don't know how we could fit him in unless Hatcher retires and the Lightning take back Jones + some more salary. I'm also not sure if I'd want to take on the 6yr commitment.

I just put 2 and 2 together and I'm wondering if I got 4. You guys tell me.

Remember a couple of days ago McKenzie did the story on how the bonus cushion was gone this year, since technically, it's potentially the final year of the CBA?

Well, do you think it bit the new owners in the a$$? They can't sign Stamkos without going over the cap, since his whole contract will count against the cap, and not just the base salary. With the bonus cushion, they're already pushing $53 million.

Just a thought.

Regardless of whether it happened that way or not, it was really poor management to spend themselves into a corner like this. If the plan was to move Boyle, they should've started the ball rolling around the Draft, and not wait until they were up against it.
