How about signing Pavol Demitra to a contract similar to the one the Pens gave Satan - 1 year at 3.5 million? 2 years/$7m?

Then we tell Mats to go have a meatball.

W/C
Pavol Demitra
Age: 33
Date of birth: November 29, 1974
Place of Birth: Dubnica, Czech. (now Slovakia)
Country: SVK
HT: 6-0 WT: 202
Shoots/Catches: L
Salary: $4,500,000
NHL Seasons: 14
Drafted by Ottawa in 1993 (9/227).

ASSETS: Has terrific quickness, excellent finishing qualities and the ability to set up teammates. Excels at both ends of the ice and is very sportsmanlike.

FLAWS: Can be thrown off his game with physical play. Has had a history of getting hurt, specifically concussions, which have limited his excellence.

CAREER POTENTIAL: Top six forward.

We need as much depth as possible if we want to win the cup this year !! Demitra would be the first line center here in Montreal, because he is better than Plekanec and Koivu. And what happen if one of Koivu or Plekanec gets injured ?! Now that Grabovski is gone, their replacement is Maxim "Freakin" Lapierre !!

Demitra is not in the elite class player, but he is very good and can help this team clearly !! Name me some impact players that are left in the UFA sheet ?! Face it, we can forget about Sundin, so who the next best one ?! Yess, Pavol Demitra !!

Demitra is not #1 on my list...but hopefully he is the worst case scenario on adding a top 6 forward.

At this point adding Jagr would make it a great off season even losing Ryder and Streit.

If Demitra could come in on a one year deal for 3.5 you could still get Mats if we move Cube and Dandy to Hamilton (or a sucker trade). The salary from both make up Demitra's allowing a Mats signing still possible. Not to mention Smoke ain't coming back for sure now with Bob saying he has 4 centres in Saku, Pleks, Chip and Lappy.

I still think Denis was brought in to be the back up and Halak is going to be part of a deal to bring in a Dman for us.

If you trade two Ds, we need to add another one just to get to 6, nevermind the 7 that most teams will carry this year. Also, if you sign Demitra and Sundin, you're going to end up with Latendresse on the 4th line, and a glut of 4th liners, even after you let Chipchura rot in Hamilton. Just doesn't make sense.

Besides, I doubt Demitra takes a short term deal at 3.5. Just look at what other guys are getting. Even still, I don't think the math works out. Gainey's also pretty much said Denis is bound for Hamilton because he needs to rebuild his game. Hate to say it, but you're dreaming in technicolor on this one.

I don't really like Demitra and if we are going after a winger I would go for Selanne.Try to convince him to playing 1 year here with Saku. Also we need a right hand shooter

That alone is reason enough to forget about Demitra. We have too many forwards like that now, that is most of the reason why we lost in the playoffs. We need someone who can play a physical game.
