Bob Cole

You would think that CBC would get someone better to do their games then him. He is a brutal announcer. He keeps trying to tell us what the player is thinking and the other game he kept calling andrew Ference " Brad". Maybe it's because they have all those Viagra commercials they feal obligated too use him.

:lol

I think it's time Cole passed the 'torch' to Cuthbert.

I like Bob Cole, but Cuthbert a lot better, in my opinion. As one of my late grandpas said, "Bob Cole sounds like he's half-dead." :lol

The problem with CBC for hockey is their color guys aren't that great with the exception of John Davidson, though he's on once every so often.

Harry Neale - Leaf homer/idiot
Glenn Healy - Leaf homer/idiot
Greg Millen - "omfG kris, comp0zite stik brok again~1!" <-- Though other than that, I don't mind him.

It'd be sweet if Chris Cuthbert and Kelly Hrudey were partners, but I don't think Kelly will be leaving the studio for the press box any time soon.

Actually I felt that his call of tonight's game was his best in a long while.

But whatever the case, IMO he isn't as bad as some people say he is. He beats the ESPN people by a mile in my books. He's not Rod Phillips (who is) but he's got one of the best voices in hockey and I imagine he'll call a good World Cup.

I love Curthbert

and this doesn't bother me per se but his voice isn't exactly tailormade for TV. He can get a bit high pitched there on occasion

i read an article (might have been in the journal, but i'm not sure) that this is likely cole and neale's last final and that cbc will pass the torch to cuthbert next year or whenever there is a season. cuthbert is the best play by play guy but millen drives me nuts. he always picks 1 player and just beats the viewer to death with his compliments of said player. i wonder if mike modano doesn't have pictures of millen in compromising positions to get him to be so in awe of modano.

i still enjoy cole even though he's not as good as he used to be, as long as the leafs aren't playing. when his leafs are playing i can't handle him and neale crying in the booth when the leafs lose and the cheerleading when they're winning.

I think Cole's retiring after the World Cup. Not sure about Neale.

Cuthbert is solid. As for Millen, look on the bright side. He's not as bad as Healy...

The only problem is that if Cuthbert gets slotted at number one... he'll only be doing leaf games, which is kind of crappy.

I love his cfl and west coast role... mostly because I am a CFL fan and an Oilers fan, but hey, we are allowed to be greedy.

Stick the leafs with Healy and the older guy (i forget his name... he also does lots of CFL).

Wittman....

I thought it was Don, but I didn't want to say Don in fear of a bunch of posts saying "Cherry".

wittman

the leaf fans would just love to have wittman every saturday night. after listening to one period of him and hearing him say "two #26's square off in the corner / in the faceoff / in a fight" they'd be ready to throttle him.

My Wittman quote...

is "pushing AND shoving."

Man the guy is brutal.

As for Healy, people think Cole is bad as Leaves homer and he damn well is. But Healy will blow the doors off him in this regard

So... what we're all really saying is that CBC has no good hockey commentators except for Cuthbert?

Maybe it's time to go old school... let Cuthbert do the play-by-play AND the colour...

And let him call the late game from a T.V. in the press box at the ACC!

I think the best play by play guy is Jim Hughson. I get to hear him a lot out here doing Canuck games. He obviously is a Canuck homer, just like Rod Phillips is for the Oilers. They travel with their prespective teams. He is exciting and knows the players.

I think Greg Millen is just brutal. I do not understand how the CBC hired this guy. I actually started thinking Glen Healy was OK after the Bruins-Canadiens series this year. he is improving. He's better than Millen IMO..I like Kelly Hrudey but he won't come away from the camera as we know he wants everyone to see his pretty face and hair LOL..

And we do not want Pierre Maguire and his Monster performer. idiot.

But I agree with this post. CBC needs a fresh makeover. Cuthbert would be the best of the CBC guys there now. I still say bring in Jim Hughson.

I agree with Hughson, he's the best play-by-play man I've heard in a long while. He's super intelligent and still keeps his composure when they play gets heated and he starts talking a million miles an hour. Him or Cuthbert would make an excellent commentator for the games, I'd be happy seeing either call the early or late game.

I'd also like to see John Davidson take over for Don Cherry if this is his last year, to go off on a tangent. JD's another hockey brain who always has something intelligent and entertaining to say. I'm not sure what his status is with the NYR, I believe he calls all of their games, but he'd be a fine addition. Not that anyone could replace Mr. Cherry of course!

I want more Martine....

Anyways, Maybe JD is ready to return to his roots. New York is a very expensive place to live. I remember when he left HNIC 20 years ago unhappy with the way he was treated. JD is the only reason I bothered with hot stove these past years.

more reasons why it's time for cole and neale to hit the glue factory:

in thursday's game chris simon was in on a 2 on 1 and blasted a shot off the cross bar. blatantly obvious from the sound that it hit the post. cole said the puck never got through to the net. after looking at 2 or 3 replays finally harry says he thinks it might have caught the cross bar. good call harry.

of course, mr. neale has also referred to kipprusoff as "aebisher" on at least 2 occassions in the series.
