I dunno how I feel about this one. Sure Bernier's young and has tons of potential, but he has been super inconsistent early in his career. And with things looking the way they are, that second could turn out to be a VERY high pick. Here's to hoping.
Edit: feels better that it's a 2010 second rounder.
as i posted on the main board, i am speculating that Gillis informed Regier of a pending RFA offer sheet in the 2nd round range and Regier instead opted for the 2nd and 3rd as a compromise.
It's not so bad when the picks are traded for young players. Bernier is the same age as Kesler, went seven picks before him in the 2003 draft.
I agree i should have added that (and did on another board!). Get him signed to a longer term deal and you can suck up the loss of picks.
All I know is Bernier is a 6'2", 225 lb, right handed shot, 23 year old former first round pick that has hands and talent. At the very least he is a big freaking target for the twins to bounce pucks off of.

anyone share this speculation?
I dunno about this, but the fact we still have our 09 2nd rounder means we can still make an offer in the 2nd round range this summer.
Is that quote honestly from Al Iafrate? Either way, that's all I think now when I see a player going for an empty net.
It sure is, and he said it after he was questioned about an play where he had a clear shot at an empty net and dumped the puck in instead.

That's a very good point. The Canucks likely added the third so that they could ensure they got the player they wanted. It also allows them to keep their second round pick in 2009 and they still have their own third round pick in 2009 (they gave up LA's pick in 2009) meaning they still have their own 1st, 2nd, 3rd.
The world is coming dow... oh wait, things can happen after 3 days of free agency..
Great deal. Young guy for a 2nd in 2 years, and a 3rd next. Tonnes of time to make up the 2nd and for a young guy its worth it... get him training!
It's a good addition but this isn't the magical fix that is going to make the team competitive. Unless Sundin signs here, the only real options we're looking at for the team being upgraded is through trades. And you have to give up assets to do that, something Vancouver does not have a whole lot of.
Still it's nice to see something positive finally.

Its also LA's 3rd from the Cloutier deal that was sent the other way apparently.. so if we still have our 3rd (?) that still leaves pretty much any offer sheet a possibility.

Seriously, I am not too immature all the time, but that cracks me up everytime I see it. Seriously, one of the funniest quotes I have seen. That's all I say now when I play hockey or see it on TV.

Nah, I think it's more likely that Buffalo was just having trouble signing him.
