Sandis Ozolinsh to Dinamo Riga?

As it is clear now, SJS will not renegotiate a new contract with Ozo, next season Ozolinsh will play in KHL(Continental Hockey League) for Dinamo Riga if he will not receive any offer from any NHL club.

Finally some good off-season player news for the Sharks.

IIRC the last play he made as a Shark was deking himself out of his own pants at the blueline before collapsing dramatically and allowing a Dallas 2-on-1 the other way that lead to a Steve Ott goal in the last game of the regular season. Good riddance, Ozo.

Nice to see everyone show much respect to one of the best offensive talents to ever patrol our blue line, and a guy who overcame his demons to battle back this season.

I wish Ozo all the best. Seems fitting his NHL career should end where it all started. Full circle

I don't care how bad his season ended. Sandis is still the man. He may not be an NHL'er anymore but he deserves mad props for fending off his demons and considering the circumstances as they were, I thought he did exceptional. He wasn't in the best of shape and gave it his all to try and get back here and he had a good spurt of games there. He wasn't in shape and on his talent alone was able to hang for a while at the biggest stage.

He deserves our respect and deserves success wherever he goes. He's a gamer and that's really all you can demand from a guy.

I still remember when Ozo scored 30+ goals and formed that crazy D-combo with Jeff Norton. Finishing his career in SJ, no matter how bad he was, was a fitting end to a damn good career.

Actually, Sandis best year was '93-'94 - 26g 38a 64pts - still the best offensive year by a D-Man in Sharks history.

Well if you want to play around with words, he never said he remembered the season he put up 30+ goals, just that he remembers him scoring 30+ goals. Which he did over the course of his career as a shark.

i will always be bitter about that trade for nolan (not that i have anything against owen), but i never understood it. not like we had a surplus of offensive defensemen where we had no use for him. the guy was a pure savage in those first three years with the sharks. hopefully in the future he can be a part of the sharks front office.

Sandis will be missed. He was one of the first really good players we had. I think what he did this season to overcome alcoholism was awesome. I wish him nothing but the best

I still wonder what became of Ozo last season. There was never any talk about why he wasnt in the lineup. Usually you'll hear something in regards to why he was scatched so often or something to nature, but we heard nothing. I kinda think maybe he was having personal issues and thats why there was never any news about him. I hope thats not the case, but its suspicious to me.

There never is really that much discussed when it comes to healthy scratches. You didn't hear much about the Marcel Goc scratches and there were many of them. Same with Curtis Brown...you only heard Remenda complaining that he should've been in the lineup.

If this report about the Continental league is true, then there's no reason to suspect that he's relapsed. If he did, he wouldn't be playing in any league, much less a pro/semi-pro league in his home country.

All I can say here is that alcohol was not the reason he got benched.
He has not relapsed and he is doing fine in that regard.

According to some reports he's still holding out hope that he'll be picked up by another NHL team before signing on with Dinamo Riga, but at this point he'd be better off to just go over-seas and finish his career in the second best league in the world instead of sitting on a bench in the NHL or being sent down to the AHL. It will do a lot more for his legacy to have a strong final season or two in the KHL (formerly the Russian Super League) than fade out here.
