TEAM1200: Sens Sign Jason Smith

TEAM 1200 20/20 sports update at the top of the hour reports Sens sign Jason Smith to a 2 year deal at 4.5 million.

That would be a very solid deal. Looking for more conformation.

I'm not sure if the Smith signing(if true) would necessarily get in the way of that happening.

if this is the case, good for him that's a good team and he'll be able to really contribute to the team's locker room attitudes in a positive way and should still contribute on the ice.

At 2.25 a year... Not bad, I guess.

Seems like a lot of cash for a slow 3rd pairing d-man. Not the puckmover the sens need, thats for sure.

If true seems like a bit too much but I've always liked Smith so I'm happy

Someone was going to give him 2M. The Sens are a team that could definitely use some grit and fortitude. He's going to be much more useful than Luke Richardson and probably Commodore too.

Exactly the type of player the Sens were in need of. Very good pick up (if true).

If those rumors are true with Bouwmeester, I think that issue may be addressed. Smith will help keep the puck out your net and he's a very good leader...he'll be a good glue guy in that dressing room and he can mentor those younger defensemen.

I'd have preferred just one year for a guy like Smith but the bottom line is we need some bodies back there and he'll be a great guy to pair with a softer, mobile, skilled player like Brian Lee. Figured he'd go for around $2 million so the per year doesn't bug me.

Now we need someone who can contribute quality top four minutes and get the puck out of our end.

He's only 34 so it's not too bad that it's 2 years.

We may need 2 of those considering the issues with signing Mezaros.

However, Smith is a solid dman you cant go wrong with. Id rather Kubina though.

I thought he was 35, my bad. Nice to know he could be put in the minors if he's done by next year and not be a cap problem. I just worry about him because he's got the body of a much older man due to the style of hockey he's played.

Not true at all, like I said it's reported and not confirmed yet so therefore Jagar signing is russia is more important. Maybe they are not sure on it yet so they threw it in there and it won't be heard of again till it's confirmed. I know what I heard bud.

dude i know radio, i WORK in radio, LOCAL is always first, If Jason Smith was signed it would be the lead story of an OTTAWA radio station, Jagr is not important to the Ottawa market as a whole, but Jason Smith singning is

Ottawa media jumps at rumors, it should have been first. Even though 1200 is the best of all Ottawa media.
