The official Post your LineCombos thread... 08 Offseason.

Who will Saku's linemates be this year? Here is hoping it will be Lats and Georges with Komi on D. Save the lil guy for the playoffs and wreck havoc

I say it'll be with Higgins - Koivu - Latendresse.

It depends a lot if Sundin signs or not.

But I doubt he will ever play with Laraque, except from the odd shift or so.

I like it. They would be like terriers after the puck. I have a hunch lats will find his place if he barrels into the corners and crashes the net. He is gifted with sweet hands.

And he attaches rockets to his skates. Guy is slow as ****, so hopefully he does improve his skating.

It'll be interesting to see what we do if Sundin doesn't sign. I really want to see the Kostitsyn brothers on a line together, preferably with Plekanec, but don't know where that leaves Kovalev as he and Koivu haven't shown much chemistry. My guess as of right now is that he will stay with Plekanec on a line with Tanguay. Then have the brothers play with Saku, with a 3rd line of Higgins-Chipchura-Latendresse, and a 4th line with 3 of Laraque-Lapierre-Kostopoulos-Begin...

unless Latendresse plays like a beast no way in the world he deserve that spot, Sergei has it imo, not even a doubt in my mind.

Im curious, why does everybody take off Higgins from Koivu's line ?

Higgings got 26-27 goals playing with Koivu.. seems like it worked ?

I see it as this for now

A.Kost-Plekanec-Kovalev
Higgins-Koivu-Tanguay
S.Kost-Chipchura/UFA/-Latendresse
Kostopoulos-Lapierre-Begin/Laraque

with sundin

A.Kost-Sundin-Kovalev
Higgins-Koivu-Tanguay
S.Kost-Plenakec-Latendresse
Kostopoulos-Lapierre-Begin/Laraque

Here's a better question.... why does everyone put Chipchura on the 4th line when Gainey said that Lapierre would be 3rd line C if we don't get Sundin?

Definitely like this line, but I won't be surprised if they run the Kostistsyn boys together. I could see Tanguay-Koivu-Kovalev...

What is with the love for Lats?

I can't understand the love for Lats; imo he does even belong in the NHL at this point. He does have some upside, but he is definately not NHL top 6 forward material.

Obviously, his biggest issue is still his skating; his first two strides are NOT NHL calibre. So his claim to the NHL was supposed to his finish... I don't see that either.

So, with that in mind.

A. Kots----Plekanec---Kovy (why break up a great line)
S.Kots---Koivu---Tanquay (speed and creativity)
Higgins--Chipchura--??? (solid checking line with a little offense)
Begin--Lappy--Kots
Laraque/Lats --- spot duty

IMO...we still need a solid 3rd line rw who can play a two way game.

I like the fact that you have Higgins on one of the top two lines instead of S. Kost. I like Sergei but he'll have to do more to get on the top two lines.
However, I think that the A. Kost Plekanec Kovalev line should start together given the success they had last year.
Maybe it won't last all season, but I think they will start together. Koivu with Tanguay on left and Higgins on right will be 2nd line. Lats Chip S. Kost will be third line. Now tell me what your lines would be if we sign Sundin

Agree with your lines, but I would just switch Higgins from left to right and also S. Kost from left to right. Tanguay's and Latendresse's skill would be better used on left wing

My Plan for the Canadians

Sorry if this should be somewhere else, but I don't post to often. I'm at work and bored

I think the habs want to play a control offense, and with the talent we have I think it's the way to go. now for this we need 3 goodl lines and 1 energy line. so here is what I would like the team to do.

1st line Tanguay-Pleks_Kovalev I think Kovalev style works better with Tanguay, who can set up both Pleks/Kovalev

2nd Line S.Kosty-Koivu-A.Kosty I think AK needs a good set up, to use his quick shot his bro and koivu fits the bill here. and I think AK is a natural RW if not mistaken.

3rd line Higgins-FA C and FA R- this is the tought part, i think this lines needs to check but be able to hold onto the puck, so ween guys who can check and stickhandle or play the boards well.

4th line Lats-Chips/Laps-Larocque/kostopolous this line to play hitting dump and chase style

I guess that leaves Begin out, or maybe chips goes back to hamilton for an other year. Dandy i see no use for him anymore.

So looking at the UFA list there isn't much

but

C
Brylin
Morrison
Demitra
Fedorov
Stephane Yelle
Walz
RW

Cooke
Isbister
Brown

I think a 3rd line with Higgns-Brylin-Cook could do the job. May Morrison but not sure he fits, unless we drop Koivu to 3rd line, and i don't want to drop Koivu unless it's for an elite C.

sorry if any of these guys have already signed

Sudin is the only plan worth considering right now. Any other plan doesnt bring us over the top.

just wondering do you think we have a 3rd line right now? not sure if Begin or Laps can do it. and Kostopolous i love the guy, but not against someone else top line

maybe we try Lats on the 3rd, wouldn't mind that if he warn't so slow

just discussing, not intended to be judgmental

Spelled Canadiens wrong in your title. I think you should revise your plan to include fixing that error.

My plan for the Canadiens:

1) Sit on the couch.
2) Open beer.
3) Open TV.
4) Switch channel to RDS.
5) Watch.

We have a third line. In fact, we are pretty full right now. The only UFA who still is a possibility is Sundin. Forget about the others because it won't happen. Maybe we'll see a trade though because the market is pretty open right now.

Anyways, Chipchura will probably be able to do a fine job on the third, and Lats will have a spot there too if he can play hard. He also has a good chemistry with Chip.

So I think we'll see (not what I really want, but what I can see)

A. Kost - Pleks - Kovy
Tanguay - Koivu - Higgins
Lats - Chip - S. Kost
Begin - Laps - Laraque/Kosto

Dandy the odd man out...

There's also a place for a surprise like D'Agostini, but I think he'll have to wait a bit...

So yeah, IMO, we have a third line...

agree about sundin, then we drop Koivu to 3rd line

Brylin, can play control the puck, descent passer, i'm not to crazy about adding more europe players, but just trying to find the players that the team may want. I'm more of in your face type of game, like anaheim but we don't have the team to play like that.

We just don't seem to have a good 3rd line
Brylin/Cook would be upgrades i think
