I was thinking this too cause you know, with Dawes height and vision, he kind of reminds me of a mini-Kariya. And Drury is like a super-Rucchin.

Naslund-Gomez-Zherdev
Dawes-Drury-Selanne

of course that signing would compound our overcrowded bottom lines even more. 1 year contract would be a nice place-holder for Cherepanov.

Teemu could still easily net 40. Would love to have him, unfortunately looks like it's either Anaheim or retirement for him.

so if you spend 2,5 for Selanne how will you pay Dawes?

I really do not think the Rangers are done trading. They simply have too many NHL calibre players. If they did sign Selanne or Demitra, the Rangers would have:

Gomez
Zherdev
Drury
Dawes
Naslund
Selanne/Demitra
Prucha
Callahan
Korpikoski
Fritsche
Sjstrom
Rissmiller
Vorros
Hollweg
Betts
Orr

So the Rangers would have an entire extra line and then some if Selanne or Demitra were signed, and even if they weren't a deal would more then likely have to be done to make some room.

I'd love Selanne in Ranger blue, I never bought it up because it seems like he is a west coast guy & want's to play & end his career there. Selanne has a shot of winning a cup evry year in Anaheim so really other than playing for the Rangers & in NY, what is his motovation to leave the west.

I brought this up last week. People had a lukewarm reaction to it:

It'd be nice of course, but it's Anaheim or retirement for Selanne I'd imagine. We don't exactly have any real connection to him that would entice him to join the Rangers, do we?

I must say, if Teemu joins the Rangers, we'll have a real shot at the Cup.

I think he's as good as Jags, maybe better. Naslund and Zherdev are definitely an upgrade over Shanny and Straka. Plus a couple of rookies like Korps and either Moore or AA, as well as Voros to replace and improve on Avery. And let's not forget the upgraded defense.

So we'd definitely be better than last season.

And then take into consideration that Pitts just lost Hossa and without him, they were barely a playoff team last year.

We would definitely be the odds on favorites to come out of the East.

In the West, the Dead Wings look brutal, but hey, at least on the Rangers he wouldn't have to face them until the Finals (hopefully they'll trip up before then), instead of April or May.

The real possibility of winning the Cup if he joins us?

It would really help us but I don't see it happening. It took him most of the year to relent to even go back to Anaheim last year, I doubt he signs anywhere else now.

I had no idea we had exactly the same opinion on this topic...

Now he's a guy who would work well with Gomez and imagine Naslund on the other side... Probably not going to happen, though, is it.

If he'd sign for a short cheap deal, I'd consider it. This team is pretty thin on the RW side. Zherdev and Prucha are questionable atm, and Callahan doesn't look like he'll pan out to be a scorer. Now, I don't think this team is contending for the Cup next season, but should they surprise it never hurts having a guy who helped win the Cup for a team just two seasons ago.

Pittsburgh acquired Hossa at the trade deadline and they were already established as one of, if not THE, teams to beat in the East. They did all of this with Crosby missing a significant portion of the season as well.

People really need to temper their expectations for this season. The team is going to be fun to watch, but it's going to be a fight to get into the playoffs just like it was last year.

I would take a shot at this point with a one year deal.

sorelosersayswhat? so since we lost 4-1 to them that makes us what? if they were barely a playoff team without Hossa that's a real backhanded way of saying we were their playoff excrement. You could argue the series would have been closer but it still would have been close.

I think we already have too many roster quality players. It's obvious we have to shed some players. We currently are two players over unless Sather is going to seriously waive both Orr and Hollweg. I doubt Orr goes anywhere. And I'm sure he didn't sign Rissmiller to sit on the bench. The problem is we don't have a 2nd line winger. Callahan, Fritsche, Sjostrom are all not 2nd line talents. Prucha on RW is the only close option we have ATM but if that fails we are really out of options. Selanne makes a lot of sense. Maybe not 100% financially but when has that stopped Glen. He usually figures something out. I personally would like to see Hollweg traded to the Kings. How fitting he should play in Hollywood! Really don't know why we signed Rissmiller. Especially so early. Fritsche totally makes him moot. And at $1M??? That's like 3rd liner money.

Naslund-Gomez-Zherdev
Dawes-Drury-Selanne
Prucha-Dubinsky-Callahan
Voros-Betts-Fritsche
Orr-Rissmiller-Sjostrom == Log Jam
Hollweg

Naslund-Gomez-Zherdev
Dawes-Drury-Prucha
Fritsche-Dubinsky-Callahan
Voros-Betts-Rissmiller/Sjostrom
Orr

make it happen (and work) Slats!

Only FA that I would definitely take to fill that last top 6 spot for an inexpensive amount is Mark Recchi.
