Signing Jagr for the Playoffs next year?

Any reason it wouldn't be possible?

We would have to do it before the trade deadline for him to be eligible. Two years ago we got Strudwick back afterwards and he wasn't allowed to play in the playoffs. Also, he has a no out clause in Omsk so he won't be available unless they release him for some reason

Well considering Jagr is getting paid significantly more than he can get in the NHL, even if it probably isn't truly 35 million over 2 seasons, yeah there's a reason he can't come over it's called money. Unless Jagr is extremely unhappy in Russia, I don't think he's going to flake out on them like that just so he can come back to the NHL to be someone's 2-3 month fix. Might as well forget about Jagr, he's moved on.

Thx, just curious. Thought their season was over before the NHL playoffs start.

Google search showed it doesn't work out.

edit: the KHL playoffs run from 3/1-3/30
NHL trade deadline is 40th day from the end of the season. 2/26 in 2008

Maybe you took it from Wikipedia, but there was a mistake, which was already corrected.

he'd have to come over before the trade deadline, and he'd have to clear waivers

does anyone remember the talk of omsk and the rangers being sister teams when sather met with bardin?

maybe he'll loan jagr to us soccer style? maybe we'll loan a young player who didn't make the big team (anisimov?) to omsk?

too conspiracy theory?

Interesting thought, but I seriously doubt it. I'm sure there is some kind of NHL rule that wouldn't allow it.

if not, the NHL doesn't seem to have a problem making rules against the rangers midseason...or playoffs.

Even if it was possible, you can't do it.

The team is totally different without Jagr, and if we're in the playoffs it means we've had some success with it, then you can't just throw Jags back in..

I can honestly picture jagr selling a few tickets in omsk, being allowed to go to the nhl in february, signing with the rangers for a prorated 7mil(remember, only what we actually pay counts against the cap) while the rangers send omsk a couple of younger players.

then the season ends, jagr goes back. strangers things have happened.

but yea, its a longshot

It would be possible and it would be bold.

The regular season of the KHL ends just a week or two after the trade deadline, so the teams which don't have a good shot would likely be willing to lend out players in return for money. AFAIK Omsk and the Rangers did come to some sort of player transfer agreement.

It is far fetched specifically for Jagr because I doubt Omsk will be bad and miss the playoffs with him in the lineup. But say the Rangers did pay Omsk a fee to allow the Rangers to borrow Jagr at the end of the KHL season or playoffs, the Rangers would need to sign Jagr to an NHL contract by the trade deadline.

There is no transfer agreement so there are no rules AFAIK which would restrict the Rangers from signing Jagr, especially if they had Omsk's blessing. I remember the opposite happened last season when the Rangers lent out Kaspar to a Russian team while he was still under contract by the Rangers.

To prevent stashing players in Europe, there is a signing deadline. Just like Kovalchuk a few years ago, if it gets into December, any team that signs a player from Europe/Russia, the player would need to clear waivers. Jagr WOULD NOT clear waivers.
