He didn't play here long enough for that. At the same time, I doubt a 5th rate organization like the Penguins will give him the honor either. And after the way they treated him and the fact he didn't even try to go back now and decided to play in Russia, I doubt he would accept it either. I don't think him and Mario are as tight as people say.

When the Penguins retire #68 the Rangers should be there. That works for both sides.

So that means he is Messier Ritcher Gilbert and Leetch status here in NY?

No, but I don't think you will see many #68s in Ranger Blue.

A Russian wearing 68? The world has come a long way, but I'm not sure we're ready for that.

I doubt the Rangers retire it, but I really don't see anyone else wearing # 68 for the Rangers anyway.

Jagr is a hockey legend, and all you people that hate him goes to show jealously....to be hated means you are Great NOT good!!!!

He won CUPS

Beat everyone on the world stage and yes the Russians!!! Canada!!! Sweds!!!! the Flins!!!!

Dominated the league aa a scoring champ 5 times, and never complained about hooking clutching grabbing like Mario, and Gretz...

Mario threatened retirement because of it....in poor taste..

Jagr took hits because no one could hurt him, so strong on the puck the best defensive players chit themselves, because they couldn't get the puck from him........

He played the game the right way, I can't remember one time where he cheap shotted anyone....

Jagr it is a shame you are not in the NHL, but times change, and the GM's in this league are stupid for not paying you for 2 years, and KLO in Edmonton who cant get a siberian farmer to play there lost a chance to have the first true superstar since Kurri left. Ironically he lost the player to Siberia......KLO just doesn't get it.......thats why he struggles to make the post season...

Great job Jags I will miss your great play....NO he didn't play in NY long enough!

Better than winning a Cup. I couldn't take that many years without playoff hockey. We were the joke of the NHL. Highest payroll and consistently a losing record. I'd rather be a respected playoff team and not win a Cup in the short run than continue to have the highest payroll and ridiculed by NHL fans nationwide. I think a lot of people forget how the Rangers were a joke before this guy came. A Cup would leave me ecstatic but I'm even more happy now that we are at least a respectable team.

hey, you're not far off, I say why the hell not?? We have a bunch already, adding another won't make much difference, plus its not like anyones going to pick up 68 anymore anyway. GO for it. Plus, if we do it first, it makes PItts look bad, awesome. Also, I think its hilarious that rival fans poke fun at the Rangers and retirement ceremonies.

i dont even think jagr would want his jersey retired in NY being he never won a cup here.

...but on the other hand, like someone said..if i were him i wouldnt go back to Pittsburgh for something after all the disrespect they showed him...would if those classless losers boo'd him on the night they raised his jersey.

were talking about an organization that had some of hockey's greatest players...yet up until 2004 there were 2 numbers retired until mike richters went up. then messier, leetch, now graves this year. but i was thinking today, i dont see anyone for a long time getting their number retired in the garden. maybe lundqvist if he sticks around, wins some vezina's and maybe a cup and carrys our team.

what im trying to get at is in madison square garden, and the new york rangers organization, u have to be spectacular and fan favorite for sure to get ur number retired let alone be on the team and be producing for a long period of time. look what messier did. the guarentee and a hat trick, leading by example, a fan favorite and well i dont need to give anymore reasons because we all know. jagr was phenominal during his SHORT time here with setting the single season goal mark for the rangers and coming in 2nd in the scoring race after the lockout, and taking us to the playoffs after 8 years, but that doesnt even stack up to what adam graves did and continues to do for this organization. jagr is lucky if his number goes up in pittsburgh

This thread should be over in the Penguins boards because there is no way in hell anyone would seriously consider retiring his number in NY.
