Jason Williams

Cannot believe he has not gone somewhere yet. He may be the only right shot scorer with upside left. I wonder if he would take a shorter deal now 2 yr 5 million to Stars They would likely then have todeal Lundqvist and Boucher for picks to get under the cap but he would fill out the lines nicely

I still wouldn't mind him in Vancouver provided the numbers are reasonable and trade/offer sheet avenues are drying up. Bernier+Williams on RW is a huge upgrade from last season.

Hes small, not physical, not defensively responsible, is inconsistent, and thinks very highly of himself. He also cant carry his own line. He needs strong offensive talents around him to carry him, as he did in Detroit.

If you're looking for a purely offensive player who is mostly a PP point/shootout specialist, hes your guy. But don't sign him with the expectation that he'll give you a dynamic performance night in and out. He had one good year in Detroit where he was favored and given more ice time than he deserved due to his long-standing relationship with Babs, and his numbers in Chicago are more reflective of playing in an offense-first system.

He originally wanted $4mil per season so the Hawks took a pass on the Charmin soft 2nd liner.

Not a huge upgrade, but yeah, I wan't Williams as well. He could be our second line RW capable of putting up 45-50 points with the right ice-time. He probably wouldn't cost much as well.

4M per?? HAHA. I was pissed when Detroit gave him 1.6. And that was after a 20+ nearly 60 point campaign.

Still think he could get 20-25 playing with Richards or Ribs and replace Modano at the point on the second PP unit. If he can do that for 2.5 or so that is petty good otherwise one of Brunnstrom Pushkarev or James Neal needs to be in the top 6 and that to me is iffy

Mind you, he's not an ideal fit - but I'd say the upgrade in talent is huge. Our RW's last year consisted of various tweeners, some of them were even playing out of position. We didn't have any RWers with top six talent last season.

A position the stars are in now except for Jere

It'll be interesting to see who Richards ends up playing with. I could see Avery being a fit on his wing - would give him some space, similar to what Morrow does for Ribs.

Do you see Eriksson playing in the top six?

I think they hope Erikkson (who can play either wing but he may be better on his left) is Richard's RW with Avery or Brunnstrom on his left. I know they are really excited about Neal but he has not been really healthy and is pretty unproven so they are trying to be patient. The top line is likely to remain Morrow-Ribs-Lets
as RW remains pretty shallow. Erikkson likely plays the right side unless a guy like Williams is signed or unless Ray Sawada who looked great in a brief trial in Iowa after school has more offensive skill than he was able to show at Cornell. I used to think Pushkarev would and should be given achance but he never even signed his qualifyng offer and may be headed back to Russia

Well, Williams could come to Vancouver, since now he wouldn't have to worry about playing in the same division as Raffi Torres, now that Torres is a Blue Jacket.

He's soft, but he's got great hands and is a solid producer on a line with somebody tough to pick up for him. I'd say Dallas or Vancouver, with a dark horse being...the Thrashers?

Tell me about it.

His only good year came on that Red Wings team that could have gotten a sack of turds 20+ goals and 40+ assists in the regular season. But he was also the reason that same Red Wings team was bounced in the first round. Like someone said earlier, he is incredibly soft and has no defensive game for a Center. I was so glad when he was gone.

The Thrashers still have a team?

He asked for 4 mill in Chicago. Bad mouthed his teamates and the organization at one point also.

Very injury prone as well.

Last season we had:

Pyatt(natural LW)
Shannon(natural C)
Linden
Cowan

and somehow managed to stay in the playoff hunt until the final two games of the season.

Canucks already have that type of guy, Kyle Wellwood.

I was another Wings fans glad to see him go. I don't know how many times he got burned being on the point on a PP, and could not skate to catch up with whoever got past him. As already mentioned, if you want a soft guy that is not defensively responsible, then he is your guy. I just wonder how long it will take until we see fans of whatever team he ends up on calling for him to be traded or sent to the minors.

I lost count of how many Wings fans told me that when he got traded to the Hawks.

He will get production. 25-30 goals and 50-60 points provided he stays healthy. Plays the point on the PP.

Ideally he is not the type of guy one would want in the playoffs, but for a team that is looking to make the playoffs his offensive contributions can go a long way in helping to achieve that goal.
