Malik interesting?

I just found this little beauty just searching for the latest news on Demitra and I scroll to the bottom and I see among interesting free Agents Marek Malik did it ever make me laugh. I guess you could call him interesting...

Something tells me Wade Redden will be the recepient for the "Marek Malik" fan appreciation award for the next several years.

Marek Malik was an unspectacular defenseman, who, at the same time, was not very intimidating physical presence either. However, he was a solid defenseman none the less. Not very fast, but had great range and first pass ability. He's made a few mistakes, but no more than our other defensmen. He was just made scapegoat by the fans for whatever reason. Booing him last season certainly did not help his game.

Okay. Flame away.

BTW, Bleed Ranger Blue, I have the same hunch about Redden.

I'm more afraid of Kalinin than Redden though Redden certainly has more responsibility. But I think Kalinin could be Backman all over again which was worse than Malik imo

Not for whatever reason. Nothing gets the Purinton type fans more lathered up than a big defenseman who doesn't hit.

Kalinin is far more likely to fill that role now and we all better hope that Redden doesn't fill that role because if he does this team's new "vaunted" defense will be quite ordinary.

I think Malik takes that to a whole new level.

Plus he dissed Renny in the locker room. Guys got in his face over it.

The fight with Avery....

The hissy fit storming out of Greenburg

Talk about a guy who needs a fresh start.

well Yanic Perreault was also listed as "interesting" so I'm guessing they're just running out of interesting players

It bothers me that some fans are already counting Redden/Kalinin out before they even step on the ice for training camp. Give the guys a chance for goodness sake.

I know Malik sucked and call me a ***** but frankly I hate booing your own players - it certainly isn't going to help the situation.

Well, Malik has been a decent defenseman throughout his career. For teams badly in need of some depth on defense, he's definitely "interesting", I'd think.

What about Ladislav Nagy. He is a right handed shot so he can play right wing but what are his injuries about can he stay healthy?

Lefty shot...he will prob end up in russia or somewhere in europe.

He seems very inconsistent.

Lucky Malik

Malik had something in his game that a really offensively good team may want. After watching him play these past few seasons, he has made some reallly nice passes, but something about the way he plays is made for a sudden, spontaneous scoring chance. There would be random times over the past few seasons where something he did created like a break away... and despite him making bad mistakes at bad times... hes better than most D men in the league. He can thrive being a 5th or 6th defensman on a really offensively capable team.

Only if Renney insists on playing Redden with Rosival who couldn't cover his back with tanning lotion. If you look at Redden's best year, he was playing with Chara. Big, slick, and a defensive powerhouse. Redden-Staal will be how to maximize Redden's performance. Redden-Rosival will just expose both of their weaknesses and lead to some awful fan backlash.

You are correct about keeping Redden and Rozsival on different pairings...but Chara played with Phillips.
