So how do you explain Ritchie, Cowan, and Isbister last year? Hansen would likely have been better than any one of these guys.

I used to love it when Don Taylor on Sportsnet Pacific would say
"My names Pavol, and it's nice Demitra!" whenever he scored a goal during the highlights.

I believe wellwood is guaranteed a spot. He can play the wing, and has in the past. It would be more apparent in case of Sundin signing, where wellwood will play as his winger. The slot is all but, wellwood's to loose, all he has to do is show up in playing condition. It's apparent from Gillis relay of JFJ's comment.

Get used to it.
Don Taylor will use that line precisely 31 times if all goes well.

If Wellwood shows that he has put in the work over the summer then I think you're right. If he comes to camp out-of-shape I think he'll be an early candidate to be the 13th forward.

I could be mistaken, but didn't Hansen break a finger in the pre-season?

I have him penciled onto the third line as his play in the AHL late in the season was incredible and he stood out in the WC's. And for Raymond, I don't think anybody is putting him in any spot but the 2nd line LW role. He's too good for the AHL and we would be ruining his development by playing him in the bottom 6.

That right there is the truth, playing raymond in the ahl would ruin his development. We did it with Luc.rip. Another example of that is Carlo Coliacavo in Toronto.

But if Demitra and Sundin, do sign on.
Sedin Sedin Bernier
Wellwood Sundin Demitra

If sundin doesn't sign on, and Raymond is in the second line slot. That line would probably compete in being the weakest in all of nhl.

Raymond goes on the 2nd line before Wellwood.

According to nhlline.ca, which has been reliable THIS free agenct period, it is done as a verbal agreement, and he will sign tomorrow.

Yes, Hansen likely would have made the team out of training camp. It was between him, Raymond, and Shannon if I recall correctly. I think he would fit nicely with either Kesler/Burrows or on the fourth line with Johnson/Hordichuk.

Raymond only fits in the top 6 until he gets stronger.

Eklund is now reporting that once we sign Demitra, he will be traded immediately for Patrick Elias. this deal is imminent.

That amount of money should be able to buy you 3 or 4 top six players.
You mean like Bernier, Sundin, and Demitra?

At the start of the season, if our roster doesn't change, Bernier likely will play RW with the twins. The twins have shown in the past (Bertuzzi, Carter, Pyatt) they do well with a big, power forward type of player who can stand in front of the net. Bernier also skates at about the same speed as the twins. Most times that light, speedy wingers have been paired with the twins, it has not been successful. The only time I could see Bernier on a different line is if we can sign a similar older player like Shanahan.

Equally a player like Demitra relies of speed and finese. He needs linemates who can keep up with him. Losing Morrison hurts. Unless we do get Sundin, lack of centre depth will force AV to use Demitra at centre. From the farm, Raymond, Grabner and Shannon have the speed to keep up to Demitra. Pettinger also is fast enough, but just barely. Pyatt - no way and Wellwood still has to prove himself. Actually I see Pyatt along with Krajicek used as trade bate and salary dump if we sign Sundin. Together they could likely land us an extra first round pick.

What team is going to trade Pyatt and Krajicek for a 1st round pick?

Well then let's get rid of Gillis and get a GM that will tell people that they're playing here!

One is less demeaning.

On another note, if he does sign this is great and it also gives more hope to the fans that were saying "tank?", that to get a good F/A he doesn't have to be signed on the the first of July.

At the same time though it generally takes quality to return a first rounder, not quantity. I know picks are generally overvalued on the board, but I don't see a team trading a first for a 2nd/3rd line forward and a 4/5 defenseman.
