Some Mock Draft News

1). In one mock draft, I selected the following players for the Blues in the first five rounds:

017. GREEN, MIKE ........ RD .. 6-02 .. 198 .. SASKATOON (WHL)
047. GARLOCK, RYAN ...... LC .. 6-01 .. 202 .. WINDSOR (OHL)
102. MC KENZIE, JIM ..... RW .. 6-01 .. 209 .. SIOUX FALLS (USHL)
105. TURPLE, DAN ........ LG .. 6-05 .. 210 .. OSHAWA (OHL)
107. BROUWER, TROY ...... RW .. 6-02 .. 216 .. MOOSE JAW (WHL)

I traded the Blues' third round pick to Minnesota for two fourth-round picks.

Let me know what you think of that move, and of the picks. I can post stats, splits, etc. for those guys if anyone's interested.

2). In another mock draft, Phoenix announced the signing of Joel Quenneville to a contract. It was pointed out to me, as the Blues' mock GM, that Quenneville remains under contract to the Blues until June 1. I immediately went to that thread and demanded that Phoenix compensate the Blues, similarly to what the Blues were made to surrender to New Jersey for the attempted signing of Scott Stevens back in the mid-90's -- a first-round pick, and the swap of first-rounders.

What do you all think of that? Fair is fair, wouldn't you agree?

I dont remember exactly what the Rangers were awarded when the Blues signed Keenan away from them, but that would probably be a good starting point. I want to say that Nedved was involved in that, but I'm not sure...

It was Nedved to the Rangers for Esa Tikkanen and Doug Lidster...so use that as a starting point. (Of course, if you can get a 1st round pick out of Phoenix,

Personally, I'd ask for Derek Morris in exchange for the rights to Alexander Khavanov.

I got absolutely lambasted by several people in that thread...

"It's just for fun, don't make such a big deal out of it. He didn't know, blah, blah, blah..."

The guy representing New Jersey, of course, thought it was a big joke. I commented that I was gratified to see how seriously Jersey takes violations of the rules when it's not their rights that are being violated, and got told that I was "making it not fun" for the other GM's...

Again,

Bottom line is: There's a salary cap of $55 million in that thread (as in, you put a team together with a $55 million salary cap). Phoenix got $2 million taken away from their cap, and I got the $2 million added to mine...

Shoot, I'm under $50 million as it is, since I unloaded both Weight and Tkachuk to TO for Antropov, Pilar, Tellqvist and a second-round pick.

B.

Again,

Confucius say: ignorance is no excuse... (apparently the exceptions to this are Phoenix and New Jersey)

In real life....I could live with that trade but would rather have a 1st in '05.

Everyone is starting to jump on my Smid bandwagon now that THN ranked him so high.
